Wing Commander *Sigh*

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Wing Commander *Sigh*

There's probably been a post about this, but it must've been a long time ago cause I couldn't see it (and I looked pretty far down.) This is sort of a nostalgic post about one of my favorite series. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then sorry

Anyone remember these games? For me, it's what completely hooked me on space-sim gaming. I played Wing Commander 1 on my cousin's comp. Got Wing Commander 2 for a b-day. Bought Wing Commander 3 myself. However, sadly I haven't played IV or Prophecy.

I wish I still had my dad's old computer with DOS I've been able to relive a little glory with Wing Commander Saga, the bundle that came with WC1 Sec. Ops 1&2, WC2 Sec. Ops 1&2, and Wing Commander 3 all for windows. Unfortunately it's kinda buggy cause XP doesn't like it.

I wish I could have played IV, I hear it's the best in the series involving Christopher Blair as the main character. I've heard Prophecy goes down the tubes story wise, but still a great game anyways.

I've seen that there is a total conversion of Freespace 2 for Wing Commander with new missions and the whole 9 yards. If I can get a cheap copy of it, I think I'll do that.

And of course who can forget Privateer? I remember I played that game till the CD broke. I've also played Privateer 2...Not THAT bad, but then again I'm a hardcore fan so perhaps I'm biased to liking it.

Alas, I don't game much anymore but when I did I can honestly say that Wing Commander & Co. definitely held (and still does hold) the highest place in my heart. I'd glady sit my butt in front of the computer for hours on end again if they made another in the series. Any other Wing Commander fanboys out there?

Heh, this turned out longer than I thought it would.

Most people who originally came to this site were Wing Commander fans, mainly because Chris Roberts who was lead in the WC games founded Digital Anvil after he left Origin. Anywho, I never got to play WC1 or 2 but managed to come to the party for 3, 4 and Prophecy. Though I'd say many would disagree that 4 was the best, I'd have to say I enjoyed that one the most. Story wise it was the best one I played IMHO, the intrigue involved with Tolwyn and the Black Lance was very enjoyable.

*Sheepish grin* Oh yeah, forgot about the whole Roberts deal...

I guess I missed out on WC IV, although I could venture to say you may have missed out on 2. WC2 has a really good story and twists pertaining murders and sabotages. Plus, that's when Blair finally gets redeemed after the loss of the Tiger's Claw.

We have discussed WC many times; they truly are classics. As for getting them to work in XP, I have had great success is utilising this resource.

I hope they release that mod soon, I'm really looking forward to it.

Do you think they ruined the saga by making a wing commander film..

As I approach the gates of heaven,
St Peter I will tell,
One more soldier reporting sir,
I've served my time in hell.

I still haven't seen it .

The problem with the film is simple, BAD ACTING, BAD EFFECTS. The Kilrathi look like they were made in the sixties.

the only good thing is the Storyline

As I approach the gates of heaven,
St Peter I will tell,
One more soldier reporting sir,
I've served my time in hell.

I've seen the film...but I cant remember what happened in it...so I guess I was not too impressed with it at the time

I've seen the movie. It's definitely not A-List, but it's a fun popcorn movie IMO.

I'll agree that the kilrathi look like crap. The WCIII costumes looked way better, and if I can recall, that game came out before the movie.

Don't worry though, as soon as I get a 100 million dollars or so I'll produce a new one! Perhaps I could even recruit some of the TLR members for the cast!

Another WC movie? With TLR posters as the cast? Interesting. I'm sure that Taw would come on board; he's always wanted to be a Kilrathi (preferably Hobbes) .

For all Wing Commander (IV) lovers, comedy enthousiasts and basically anyone who loves reading, I want to recommend the following.

Very funny alternate version of the WC IV: The Price of Freedom story!

It's an alternate version of the entire Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom story. OMG, this story made me laugh so loud! It's a blend of the serious story of WC4, but in a more humorous way. It follows the same WCIV story with the same character, but also with some added ones from WCIII and added parts to the story and like I said, it's still exiting and serious like the original story is in a way, but this humorous version is just a true diamond imo!

Example:

Remember the part in the beginning where Blair and Maniac fly a shuttle to Confed HQ and notice the TCS Victory? Well, here's what happens next in the alternate story....

"Hey, is that the Victory?" I picked out her familiar silhouette against Saturn's disk. Our old ship appeared to be in the same orbit as HQ, about a hundred thousand klicks ahead of it. She was surrounded by civilian shuttles and runabouts.

"Yeah, it's an orbital museum now. A relic of the war, like some farmers I know." He looked at me mockingly. "I'll bet they have a plaque right over your bunk."

Ha ha, very funny. Actually, I was wondering if they ever found that pile of used condoms behind the gunnery console, where Flint and I had most of our trysts. I didn't want some kid in a school tour group to run across them.

"That reminds, me, Maniac. What did you ever do with that huge Playboy collection of yours?" Maniac just smiled and pointed to the aft compartment. Next to my duffel bag were four more with magazine-shaped bulges.

"Travel light, don't you?" I asked sarcastically. He nodded, grinning proudly.
