Found a gem of a game

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

@Kimk,

You've never played or even seen Freespace 2 ...You're missing out. While it may not have the graphics or open-endedness like Freelancer, it truly is one of the best space flight sims ever made...not to mention the best beams ever in a space flight sim

There's a gallery for the game Here

i have to agreee, the graphics are shabby but ooh i feel happy jus talking bout it

Post Wed Oct 13, 2004 12:22 pm

the graphics aren't *shabby* at all. They might not be on a par with the latest but they're still q respectable.

You have just made me want to find myself a copy of Freespace 2 and give it a whorl.

Any others i should know about

Post Wed Oct 13, 2004 12:33 pm

you're saying you've never played it? I find that coming from you Chips of all people q incredible.

You can borrow mine if you want, but I'll have to have it back at some point.

so presumably you didn't play FS1 or Silent Threat then? didn't you ever wonder where all those cool looking ships in the FL mods came from?

is FS2 still played online then? i thought PXO was dead as a doornail?

(scales are very impressive in FS2, far superior imo to FL, in which I thought scales were rather badly done)

The battleships are fighting with lasers weapons and plasma weapons

This game in my rate is defently "The Art Of War"

@parabolix
its not a real Flight-Simulator
its more like the best Space War Game

The best part to me of FS 1 and 2, was that if you had a twist joystick, you could bank and roll with ease and glide around a large ship. Was a hoot. I still have both sets of disks.

My played space sims=

Elite (not too much though)
Elite 2 (incessantly)
X-Wing (incessantly)
Freelancer
X2 the Threat

I think thats it in all honesty. I cannot remember anymore!

Would love to borrow it Taw.....but am sure i could find a nice cheap copy somewhere..........if its available to buy in those 'classics' sections of games shops!

Post Wed Oct 13, 2004 1:41 pm

there are several UK copies on Ebay

so you never played any Wing Commander? any of the other X-series? TieFighter v X-Wing? or Starlancer? I am surprised, to say the least.

speaking of FS2, does anyone know if "Tolwyn" ever finished the WC Saga mod for FS2? it looked superb from the few bits I saw. I'd normally go to WCNews for such imformation but erm I don't get on with them.

I've tried to play FS2, but the introductory/tutorial missions irritated me, and the graphics are slightly corrupted (thank you XP!). Still, I'll get into it... one day.

Post Thu Oct 14, 2004 3:39 am

yeah the ship training mission annoy me, iofte fail cus i bow up my instructors ship. he annoys me. but once your fighting the NTF and the Shiva it picks up. poor Kappa patrol, didnt Shiva get them along with trinity.

One of the best games ever - perhaps even better than WC (WC's storyline were kinda corny and overdramatized in places, FS was all-realistic and believable). Not to mention the awesome ship designs, and ultra-cool designations: Myrmidon. Hercules. Medusa. Shaitan. Lucifer. Raksasha. Shiva.

I'm still gluing fingers together and sacrificing chickens (KFC) to random gods so that there would be a 3rd Freespace. And....I played FS 1 and 2 using no joystick at all. Just keyboards - the way I finished SL (ooohh I still remember the way X2 people had fits about this particular confession of mine - such heresy! )

Ahh, the good old days of FS2...
1. Fun battles
2. Massive battles
3. I hate those Shivans
4. Beams <--- All FS2 fans love 'em
5. Did I mention how much I hate those shivans?
6. Massive modding community (that still hasn't died)
7. Great controls
8. Good graphics for the day. (and good graphics now if you download the source code project)

Boy I love it, and its really modable (*wink* *wink* chips... )

there'll never be an FS3, sadly. i fumed at the abrupt ending. there's stacks of story left in it and there wasn't even an expansion pack, like FS1 had. at the time of course space-sims were in the doldrums, but FL and X2 have rectified that to some extent. now would be a good time for FS3 or even FS2+.

but where are Volition at these days? are they even still in the space-sim business? isn't it all Red Faction and Summoner now?
