comanche 3!!

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

comanche 3!!

since previous thread about comanche got clicked, we talk here

indeed, AAA's were one of the most effective ever. the AI in overall was actually the most effective i've seen. they put all their firepower behind each and every shot they make.

and like they say in the intro, or was it the overview about the comanche, its not a craft to trade fire in. no, definitely it wasn't. a well aimed shell, or a missile hitting its mark would bring you down. couple shots of AA fire at the right place definitely takes you down.

then again, with limited firepower, you're really flying on the edge of your seat. its so.. intense?

I totally agree with the above. Then came 'Comanche 4' [pukes....

If only something like 'C 3' could be combined with an "FL" like sim..ooooooooooh.

Am waiting for 'Elite 4". PC Format Mag of Aug. 2004 advises that it is in the
works!!! [huzza!.

Oh yeah that would rock. Why was Commanche 4 so bad? I never actually got to play it myself, but the demo looked pretty. Lol, I was just playing C3 before. Good ole' Voxel 2 technology...the landscape is fricking huge! And the AI in C3 is absolutely brilliant in choppers, ground stuff and lol Nanuchkas. Except friendly choppers. Those Apaches were near useless, they would fly around and get wasted easily yet the enemy helicopters were more of a threat. The music in the menu was pretty cool as well.

The Commanche is not an improved version of the Apache. It's not meant to go in all guns blazing.Like the F22, it's main strength is stealth. That's why it's fuselage is so slim and the rotors are so quiet

yeah, it "looked pretty"...thats about it. It was a benchmark, thats all. None of the fun of comanche 3 in my opinion.

Comanche 3 wasn't *that* realistic at all, but it didn't feel arcade, you still felt like you were playing out real battles, it had just enough unrealism to make it fun. There was a hard mode where more realistic physics were used etc.

The missions were VERY well done, there was never a repetative or boring mission each new one was a totally new experiance. Also a good thing about not having it too realistic with too much going on inside your aircraft, you could concentrate on what was going on outside and you actually had to use a bit of strategy and tactical thinking. I really liked that you were vunerable and that you had to use your advantage of stealth and speed to overcome the odds.

My favourite mission was the one with A-10's, I think it was the last one, where there was a massive battlefied, and also the one with the train that you had to protect.
Comanche 3 is definantly the best (most fun) helicopter sim ever made, and I can say that because there are so few helicopter sims available.

btw Those fighters you refered to in the last thread kimk were SU-25 "frogfoot" close air support, I loved it when one of them appeared, you heard "we got a frogfoot!" and it really made you sit on the edge of your chair while waiting for it to appear. I'd just fire a large salvo of stingers at it, and it'd go down.

EDIT - Elite 4....bahahahahaahahahahahha

C4 went off voxels and used fogging. Like 'flat' land and no 'reality' like going
thru the C3 canyons.

Did you get Commanche Gold? It has the original C3 missons and the original C4 missions using voxels like in C3. It also has some extra missions. So, the "C4" missions in Comanche Gold are a whole new game. Like an expansion... I got it for $19 Cn and that was more than a year ago.

Then NL decided to out of voxels and go to the same format as their ground based games. Most of the game mag reviewers hated the voxel thing. Then they named it C4. Not at all like the first C4 demo. So, C4 should have really been C5.

Yr right Griffon, those froggys were really cool. That one in C3-to kill the sub mission-was really a blast!!!

Griffon_26 was the player (you), griffon_27 was your dumb wingman, and thats all I remember besides Datona 1 3 (apache team)

Another great thing was the artillery strikes and I thought the 20mm cannon was done particularly well...back in that time it was a novelty to me to have all these different weapons for different things...I beleive it was the first war flight sim I ever played

ever tried Mil-24 Hind? not the instant action and mind-boggling weaponry of any of the Comanches (btw 3 was the best!) but a very well-modelled chopper sim with superb gameplay. the Afghanistan campaign was wonderful. rubbish graphics unless you had a 3dfx card, but crackin anyway. used to play it 2 player with a m8, he'd fly and I'd be nose gunner, running up and down the Panjshir shooting up fuzzys, doing mergency evacs on the Jalalabad road, dropping FAEs on moojah villages near Khost - it was a wonderful sim. far more than a game.

other than maybe Jane's Apache Longbow, I've never played such an engrossing helicopter sim.

Sorry you misplaced yr copy of CGold, Kimk [as he locks his copy in the safe.

Twa's prob right re C3. The 'expansion' missions in Gold were not as well thought
out mostly. Didn't have the heart pounding imersive quality C3 did. However, it
was worth it just to get back in the Voxel canyons.

One thing I learned quickly. Never follow the Waypoints religiously. Undoubtly you'll get ambushed if you did. Head for the target points directly. Near target areas go low and slow. The game really gave you the feeling you were there hiding behind the hills poping up to lace a tank or gun mount.

Also, CGold has the mission DK which is very easy to use to build your own
missions!!!

Post Sun Sep 19, 2004 2:15 pm

I found following the waypoints was suicidal. I ignored them most of the time. I thought it was a very poor part of the game, but C3 wasn't and isn't the only culprit in that respect.

Post Sun Sep 19, 2004 4:20 pm

no offince, but i kinda thought it could have been alot better, you could have had an more of an selection on the load out...lest i thought. but then agian i also thought the only thing that changed was the missions and the wings that could now be put on the chopper.

Post Sun Sep 19, 2004 6:35 pm

In someways you are right warrior_17. The expansion pack in CGold allows you to choose your own weaps. loadout. However, making do with what was provided you in C3 made the missions all the more challenging, I thought.
Making use of your wingman, who had infinite weaps, was also part of the challenge. Trying to keep him from running off way yonder after noncritical targets for one. And trying to keep him from blowing himself up by letting go a Hellfire into the mountain right in front of him..........
In a few missions, if you were able to conserve your weaps, there were unofficial missions just over a mountain or two.
In one, there was a base surrounded by watch towers with 8 or so tanks and quite a few buildings just over the way from the mission location. I looked on it as being a reward for doing such a good job in completing the misson objective. Even if Kimk-oh sorry, I meant Griffon_ 27, let you down again.
Being able to choose your own weaps didn't give you the same challenge and satisfaction in a successful end to the mission.

Now if I could only get that mission editor to work in............ah weeel.
