Windows Messaging, Proteus and the Genesis Project

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Windows Messaging, Proteus and the Genesis Project

Ok, first the good news, my now notebook computer has arrived, a Proteus X553D. Centrino with 1.6 PM 256 Mb.

Taw and most of the network experts will know what im talking about when i talk about 'windows messaging service' for those who dont ill elaborate:
Windows meggaging is a packet protocol system that allows a single text string to be sent from one computer to a number of recipients, or even the whole network it is connected to.

This has been a slight problem at my school, as people are working thier way around the command block prompt and puting stuff like this in:

c:\>Net send * Ur a *******
jusct put Fwit where the stars are.
I even got a bit of trouble when i but into my new proteus THIS command:
c:\>msg SSL-08 /DOMAIN:GENESIS Blah!
needless to say, it did go to SSL-08, as well as the whole bloody domain...

Ive put forward a reccomendation to the Network administrator that we disable the Messaging service, but so far i havent heard much from it

2 questions:

is it possible to block messages being sent only by administrators (dont suggest bloking the Prompt, already been done and bupassed)

And, has anyone else had a similar experience?

This was fun at school. In the beginning, nobody knew who was sending the messages and why they would show up. That was, until everybody started to use it and they disabled it. Don't know how though, but I believe they disabled the promt.

bah, it's so annoying. I never tell anyone about it because once they find out it it's like a week of stoopid messages until they get bored. I had hoped it would be quietly forgotten.

Taw's right; it almost as bad as the people who discover the Novell messenger and send constant spam *shakes head*.

the genesis project brought spock back to life

Post Mon Sep 13, 2004 5:03 am

actually it was an unexpected after-effect of the Genesis wave; the project itself was intended to entirely recreate matter in a new form in the Genesis-matrix. David Marcus' unethical and dangerous use of use of protomatter destab... WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING? omfg a week off freedom and all I've done is turn into a Trek uber-nerd!.. ilised the Genesis matrix so that q unexpectedly Captain Spock's body was reanimated. So to say that the genesis project brought Spock back to life .. JEEZ! I'VE REALLY GOTTA GET OUT MORE.. is true only in a very loose and inaccurate manner.

im afraid you're too far gone taw. i'd give you about 3 days before you go on a star-trek-episode-download-stacking-spree, stacking gig after gig of star trek episodes. believe me, i have a friend who has like 30gigs of the stuff. i dunno, might be 300.

Post Mon Sep 13, 2004 7:15 am

what do you take me for? some sad Star Trek nerd who can't find a better use for the 21st C interweb than d/l-ing ST episodes when I've already got them on dvd oh that was a mistake wasn't it? (note to brain - never volunteer any information ever again)

taw, can i have my bat'leth back please?

Post Mon Sep 13, 2004 9:50 am

I took it from your family by right of conquest, filthy p'tak! Do you challenge the House Of T'w'klna?

(oh man i can't believe I'm doing this, i know I've been drinking too much quality coffee these past few days, but now I'm throwing down the gauntlet to Arcon klingon-stylee? i must be mad.)

Post Tue Sep 14, 2004 3:39 am

So your heroic consumption of coffee explains why you have been spamming so much recently? I wonder if that implies a more generalised causal relationship between coffee and spamming? Hmm, that's probably worth investigating people. Perhaps the greater the consumption of coffee, the more spam that a person posts...

I hear that some people have it intravenously.

You lying rat, i leant you my batleth so you could complete a blood oath as yours had gone all manky from being used to open tins of reformed meat and you hadnt left it to soak in the sink.
