Warning: rant ahead
Football/soccer players are lazy, (muchomucho) overpayed and overrated and they can't compete in their athletic skills with other athlets. That's about the storyline in an article of "Weltwoche" published on 2 Sept 2004 (in German). The article gives examples of one week trainings of the football clubs 'Internazionale Milano' and 'FC Basel' and compares it to a Swiss amateur Triathlet (Swimming, Biking, Running). Excerpts:
Internazionale:
23.08. Free time, 1730 -1830 technical-tactical training
24.08. 1030 - 1115 stretching, gym, massage. Game
25.08. - 27.08. Free time
FC Basel:
23.08. 1000 - 1100 Training
24.08. 30 min Footing in the morning, Game
25.08. 1600 Analysis of the Game, 1630 - 1800 "Jogging"
26.08. Free time
Triathlet (45, amateur/has a job, prepares for Swiss Championship):
23.08. 1945 - 2045 Swimming
24.08. 0645 - 0800 Running
2000 - 2050 Swimming
25.08. 1000 - 1100 Swimming
afternoon: 70 km Biking, 28 km Running
26.08. 1900 - 2000 Swimming
27.08. 0645 - 0815 Running
1915 - 2015 Swimming (in open lake, brrrr)
28.08. 60 km Biking, 15 km Running
29.08. 160 km Biking
All information taken from Weltwoche-Magazine.
So all you lazy guys: if you want to do nothing and have a XXXXXL-salary you have to become football/soccer-pro ...
In the past years we all could read stories about 18-years-old-football players who got millions of bucks, but had no idea what to do with all that money. They lost it because of lousy managers, greedy investment bankers or ill-minded consultants (or they threw it out of window for bizarre birthday-presents for their children; remember what the Beckhams bought for their three (4 ??) years old daughter ? lol).
Too much money in sports ruins the game. That's why in these days the most interesting football ("let's go" instead of "tactical catenaccio" ) can be seen at the "under - 21-championship" - or at WOMEN's games. (sorry lads: NO sexism intended )
