Windows Longhorn Now Announced to Be a 2006 Deliverable ...

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Windows Longhorn Now Announced to Be a 2006 Deliverable ...

It will not have the file searching engine that was planned, WinFS, but MS says Longhorn is now slated for a 2006 rollout.

I can't find any reference to 64bit in any of the literature. Does anyone know?

A little more on 64bit.

Release date 2006 A note Indy, even the time between now and the date, they can't get it all togeather.

Microsoft will deliver a Windows storage subsystem, code-named "WinFS," after the "Longhorn" release. The new storage system provides advanced data organization and management capabilities and will be in beta testing when the "Longhorn" client becomes available.
Bummer

i'm sure it'll cost a chunck of change too

Without WinFS, I do not think that Loghorn will sell as well. After all, NTFS is an old and comparatively inefficient system, particularly in terms of file fragmentation. Still, at least XP is relatively stable, so we have something to keep us going .

Eskie, when i was running LongHorn Beta a while
back, it Formatted the NTFS HDD to WinFS, so,
Whoever said that it would not be available by 2006
was talking Shiite.

I did hear recently that Longhorn will have a full 3D
interface, horseshiite if you ask me...

Bah. I laugh at all you people giving money to the evil monopolist that is Bill Gates.

*has Linux*

If linux was reliable, did not require compiling, and wine to run win apps, I would switch, but it requires too much work to use everyday. Tried it a few years ago when Corel had a version of it.

Indy, Do you honestly trust a Microsoft Press release?
If so then, what ever deity to worship, may it save your soul...

Why would MS lie about such an important part of what it had announced to be Longhorn? This news hit other sources as well.

I figure if the great vaporware god himself is saying no WinFS.... it must mean something.

Please explain AoD.

AoD - Even if you converted NTFS to WinFS, the cluster size would probably be larger than WinFS's native size, and thus performance wouldn't be quite as good. St least, that's my theory.

OSLinux - As soon as they start making games for Linux, I'm there!

Esqy, ever heard of a little game series called Unreal Tournament? There's the original Unreal Tournament, then there's UT2, UT2003, UT2004... all of them come right out of the box with a Linux installer.

has anyone ever followed the 'bit' series through to conclusion. If we keep goin at this rate, we will eventually (Not anytime in the recent future i might add), get BIG chips like 256Mbit chips and stuff like that, imagine that...
But that also raises the question of WHAT we are going to be doing that is so resuource demanding...

They can sell me Longhorn when they pry my 2000 Pro from my cold, dead hands.

Post Wed Sep 01, 2004 3:28 am

OSLInux - Of course, but that's only one game and you can only play it for so long. And yes, I know about WINE .
