Buy more memory. 256 megs of RAM doesn't cut it anymore. KOTOR recommends 512. That's what you should have. I had 256 megs of PC100 memory in my machine and I had the same results. I got a stick of 256 MEGS of PC2100 DDR RAM from Taw and I bought another stick of the same memory from a computer shop and the performance in my games skyrocketed. KOTOR's performance also increased. I think that's your problem. As for the crashes, I don't have the first clue. I got the latest patch for the game, and it still crashes every now and again on me. I don't know what to tell you there. The rest of your machine looks good, but I'd double the memory at least. Not just for Knights of the Old Republic, but for a lot of new games that are coming out soon. It seems a bare minimum of 384 megs of RAM is required now. It's worth the investment. You can pick up an extra stick of 256 megs of RAM for about 50-80 USD, depending on the brand. So, that should help. As for your virtual memory, if you don't know the guidelines of doing it safely, I'd recommend letting the system handle it for you. Here's what I do with MY virtual memory. In the minimum box, put in the amount of your physical memory(your RAM), and put about 1500-1700 in your maximum. But as I said, if you don't want to screw up your system, let the system do the hard work for you. Safest bet in my opinion? Buy more memory.

I'm playing KotOR as well and I have a P4 1.7 Ghz, 256 MB RAM, Geforce 3 ti 200 64 MB system and run XP Pro and it purrs like a kitten, so you don't necessarily need 512 MB RAM, althought some extra RAM couldn't hurt.

Have you installed the latest patch for the game? (v 1.3 if I remembered correctly) KotOR had quite some performance issues with the retail version and with the newest patch it should be a lot better.. like I said, I don't have any problems and I run the game at the highest settings (except for Anisotropic Filtering and Anti-Aliasing, which I have both set on 2x).

Furthermore, you have the newest drivers for your videocard installed? If not, go download them over at Nvidia. And if you don't have it already, please download the latest DirectX version too, which is DirectX 9.0c. And finally you could decide to download the program NVHardpage, which will let you easily tweak your Nvidia videocard in order to have the best settings for quality and performance.

Including getting spyware from a patch. I like the game without the patch, mods though, I like them.

What they said. I have 512 megs of RAM, but shoddy specs everywhere else, and the game runs decently.

@Eraser- Thanks for the tips, oh great space marshall *bows humbly*. I updated my video drivers and downloaded the patch, and the game runs perfectly. Now to find my way to the undercity...

Final - Although I'm paranoid, I do not believe that the positive ID in the 1.03 patch is really spyware. I believe that it is a false ID, as if you install the patch and scan your PC, there are no positive hits. Therefore, I would assume that the heuristics are playing up.

to get of taris i had to get a graphics update and there were a few probs on taris but now it works fine.
the game can scan itself and will tell if something s is wrong and osmetimes what to get i had to call tech support but no wi beat the a million times but freelancer is better

Ahhh, KOTOR. A great game! I have clocked about 120 hours on that game. However, I play it on XBOX, so I never have these problems. Thats what I hate about computer games, if your comp. isn't new enough, then you're screwed. FL is the only computer game I ever play anymore.

But I have it optimized with the latest drivers and such, that I can pretty much play ANY game on it if I wanted to. They run fairly well too. KOTOR runs VERY well on my machine now that I've upgraded the memory.
