starshatter

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

starshatter

there was a thread about this quite some time ago. the author is supposed to have been on TLR at one point right ?

can anyone tell me if its already gone gold? when its due to come out if not already, and how you found it.

oh and on a side note, i went to watch collateral today. i found it extremely plotless and pretty boring.

Hrm just checked and it turns out it has gone gold and is available at www.starshatter.com. There's also some screenies and other assorted crap there.
The creater did post here for quite some time under the moniker of milod, twas a nice guy. Probably still is too.

Post Mon Aug 23, 2004 6:14 am

edit: ok so it came out first of july. so they are still some late.

*wonders what it is like to know that anything that comes out will quickly be
available in cheap pirated copy*

*also considers buying the game and decides to do it*

indy, dont'. i'll stick up screenshots. if i were you i'd wait for later versions.

besides, the thing is hell to learn, at least for now. its.. weird.

Post Mon Aug 23, 2004 9:29 am

i would know too because i played a demo version and all i can say is bad control(i don't have a joystick) and PIXELATED LITERALLY.

Ah. Thanks guys! Mistake averted. Wasn't going to shop it until tomorrow anyway.

Much obliged.

<Edit>

Interesting thing being that they've made the game very Mod friendly so they really did take a lesson or two from hanging out at TLR.

thats cause it needs mods, bad. voice overs too. but still a fantastic job by such a small team.

edit: but nonetheless, the game has some enourmous potential. if all of our FL modders and renderers worked up a joint operation on starshatter, i think it can become an amazing game.

some artists too, for those avatar things that they had in SL and FL. but thats just for decoration. the physics of the game could use some fine tuning imho.

i love the missiles, the damage effects. the limited stocks. but the damage effects are really a bit tooo.... great. its like as if you're driving a small car in space. couple bullets riddle holes in it. but a space fighter should have a significant amount of armour. right now, couple hits will bring your entire drive out, essentially reducing your fighter to a floating hunk of metal that shoots stuff.

there should be some kind of automatic targetting and lock system like in SL.

and targets.. are too fooking small! the diamond marker just totally covers them. its more like a atmospheric fighter sim game where its nearly impossible to learn how to dogfight.

gunfire aims a little below the cross thingy. its hard to aim too.

Edited by - kimk on 8/23/2004 9:38:40 PM

edit2: here see the fighter? its pretty much locked like that. its the scene that changes, and not the fighter when you turn. its very much like that earth is flat and the heavens are one celestial cieling that rotates when in reality its the ship that turns. but you dont see any effect the turning has on the ship. the whole thing just.. 'shifts'. the HUD is hell to understand.

So there's no cockpit view?

Post Tue Aug 24, 2004 6:51 pm

there is a cockpit view, but you dont 'see' the cockpit around you. its like you're seeing from the windshield out.

there's this other 'orbit' view as well, which you can use to view strategically, zoom out and stuff. the whole thing is a bit... glitchy.

I may have to pick up this game, sure it may have its weaknesses but it does have the potential. I'm one of the poeple that can always look past graphics also.

Post Tue Aug 24, 2004 9:29 pm

im not talking about graphics. you get it and see for yourself. its got immense potential though.
