Major suckage!

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Major suckage!

Man, this sucks. This morning before I headed to work, my 17-inch monitor died on me. The power would turn on, but there would be a blank screen when I turn my computer on. I'm not sure what happened, but I think it's dead. Thankfully, I have a back-up monitor in case something like this happens. Unfortunately, it's a 14-inch monitor with a maximum resolution of 640*480. OUCH! Thank god I decided to do a dual-boot system with Windows 98(older games) and XP. I can't even get into XP, because the screen will go all wierd because of the resolution limit. On the other hand, my DVD's look rather nice and clean on this monitor. Thankfully, I got a raise this week and I get paid next Monday so I can go look for a cheap 17-inch monitor. I just got into Knights of the Old Republic again when this happened. SHIZZNIT! This monitor I'm using right now I got at a used computer store for 50 bucks because I was desperate for a monitor. Boy these things can come in handy in a tight spot. Unfortunately it's like driving a car with a spare donut tire. You can use it for a while, but sooner or later you're gonna have to get it fixed. Oh yeah, before I plugged in the 14-incher, I tried everything to get the other monitor working. I unplugged it, and plugged it back in. No go. I even reseated the video card, even though I knew that wasn't the problem, but I decided to be safe. Didn't work either. I had that other monitor for about 6 years. It was really reliable. Oh, well. S**t happens.

To hell with LCD, give me my cheap CRT's! No seriously, I would love to have an LCD, but when it comes to First-Person shooters, they don't perform as well as CRT monitors. And quite frankly, considering how much I make, an LCD screen isn't an option. I was kinda thinking it was on it's way too. I'm surprised it lasted THIS long. Oh, well. At least I can still play MOST of my games for a little while. Considering I run most of them at 640*480 anyway, this isn't that much of a setback. It's annoying, but I can deal with it.

LCDs still ghost too much to make playing games any good, particularly FPS's. A good quality 19"/21" CRT is stil the way to go.

I agree.

And I thought
this post was about women and oral sex. I see I was wrong.

Anyway my LCD monitor is good with FPSes... I think...

I've got a Dell 17" LCD. Survivor of my D-hell experience. No ghosting problems.

Lately I've learned that Dell LCDs are highly regarded and have been deemed games-worthy, although usually the 20" version.

indy, you're gonna have to tell me how you did that. i think the only disadvantage of LCDs over CRTs is the ghosting. the size reduction i think more than makes up for its disadvantage. besides i dont play FPS.

Still have my 5 year old 17" e_Machine. Best buys get a sale evey ones in a while for around, $229 for a 19". I'm holding out for that. My want is better refresh rate for my eyes.

@kimk

No ghosting for me when I play FL or any of the MW games. My video card is
a GeForce 4 4600ti and I pretty much have things set to highest resoultion.

However, ever since the death of my D*hell, I've not played any of the MW games, just FL now and then.
