mechwarrior4 - question

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

mechwarrior4 - question

because i can't be bothered to look up a mechwarrior 4 forum/site, im gonna ask you lot seeing as some of you have played it i think.

mission 6 i think, where you escort a bunch of APCs across a bridge. i blast everything after a very long walk and lots of shooting. the apcs do couple weird turns before getting on the bridge and the lead managed to lodge himself to the side of the bridge just before the steep fall into the river below.

so like, he wont budge, i tried to push him by walking up against him but its not working. the other apc wont move either.

i was stuck on this mission before too. the lead apc managed to cross the bridge but the others just sat there, not moving.

is it because i missed something? what could i have missed? objectives show all complete i believe.

its really annoying. otherwise its a good game.

I think that it's a bug. Have you tried the patches? Ive never had that problem in MW4.

I dont think its a bug because i can do it.

I know I shall meet my fate, somewhere in the stars above, those I fight I do not hate, those I guard I do not Love

As I remember it, you can't get too far ahead of the APCs. If you over anticipate
what's coming up and get too ahead of the mission development it seems to make the AI get a little screwy .... You have to kind of let the baddies threaten to destroy the APCs a little more than is comfortable.

Don't know if this means it is a bug but that's what I experienced. I had to replay that mission a few times to get it so that I was protecting the APCs but not wiping out the threats before they actually would constitute a serious endangerment to the APCs.

i had to let them take out one apc and occupy myself with some uziel dude. man wtf are those blue things they shoot? they blur my HUD. and apparently i'm not too good at the game yet, i hardly get out of a mission without at least 3 guns gone. none of my parts are green. i dont know how my AI teammates do it.

i set up that nolan guy i think was his name, who claims to be a 'sniper', i gave him a catapult, is that a good idea?

anyways i got past that mission. now i have to take out this base.

Uziels carry a pair of PPCs - Particle Projection Cannons. Described by the Battletech field manual as "man-made lightning", these bolts contain EMP charges that can screw up your radar and actually any civilian electronics nearby. But your own battlemech is well-shielded so the effect is only temporary.

That bug happens alot, atleast for me. Just replay the mission until it works, ensuring that you never get too far ahead of the convoy.

@Kim

Ummmm. Probably this conversation eventually will have to migrate to a more appropriate forum. Catapults are best suited for long range missile attacks, especially. They need to keep moving around though. Kind of limited in the energy weapons role altho big lasers loaded on them can make for some effective sniping. But it really is much more of a long range guided missiles artillery battery. A guided Katyushas on two legs.

yeah this'lll have to move soon.

ok, one last question. there'll probably be alot more 'last' questions following this.

anyways, at that capture base mission, i get through the defenses fine and the techies in the little cars go in and take the control tower.

i stick around, shoot down the two whirly choppers then stick around a little longer.

from nav point A this invasion force thing comes, with like 5 of those little cars and 2 mechs i keep forgetting the name of and 2/3 cougars. yeah i take the cougars out but those new type of mechs got one sh!tload of armour. took my two other guys out and then lastly, me.

the guy over comm said something about taking control of soem turrets left behind or something. am i supposed to park my mech in a turret and start firing or something? i think they mentioend something about the missile tower or something. i couldn't hear them properly. anyways, anyone tell me if theres a way other than brute force that'll get me through this one?

some things i thought of are to lure them to the oil tanks and then blow the tanks. but they just wont come any near them.

i find that a uzile is best fought with a mech like the shadowcat as they can hit hard and fast making the circle of doom perfect.

Stop complianing and start playing

Try here

It has been over a year since I last played MW4. So I don't remember whether this is the mission where you only need to hold the base until the techies make it back out IN THEIR choppers ... in which case you don't want to shoot them down ... and then you have to high tail it out of there 'cause it's gonna get nuked....

OR the base in which you have no chance at holding the base and you have to get out of there with minimum casualties to an extraction point, fighting a rear guard action all the way.

PS, to borrow a term from NASA, there are no in-mission "EVAs".

yeah i have played it. found that the trick was to get your team mates take on the hard guys and then you yourself take the cougars which are weaker. i also went into that repair bay really frequently.

im on the next mission, sweep and kill type. too bad there's no repair stations

but ooo i took out a cougar in 3 shots uziel in like 5. too bad im nearly always too near to the dying mech for me to go unharmed. too many steeps

Post Wed Aug 11, 2004 6:11 am

I ran all over the map killing the attacking forces in that mission, and yet I never had any problems.

Post Wed Aug 11, 2004 6:24 am

Oh. I got the games confused, I was thinking Mercenaries or Black Knight.... I'm still confused. You're on MW4 Vengeance? The mission where you have to take out 2 Uziels to take over the base, and then 5 Cougars (2 from one direction, and then 3 teamed up with 2 Arguses from the other?).

Yeah. You need to use the repair bay most times. What are you in though? It usually pays to be in the heaviest class and armed mech in your lance.

Post Wed Aug 11, 2004 8:16 am

ok yeah, im in vengeance, i didn't realise there were others.

and i got past that mission, now im doing a search and destroy thing.

playing around in an uziel, the bushwacker has 5 tons more room but the settings seem to favor bullets more than anything and the guns shooting bullets are usually really heavy and i dont like restriction on ammo

so im in an uziel, with one ppc, 3 medium lasers or something plus this autogun thing doing 14dmg i think per shot. no missiles. took out a congor or somehting in 3 shots!

im having a little trouble with a heavier chassis, vulture or wolverine i think, i duno, those two names stuck.
