This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Space: Above and Beyond - spoiler request

I'm just going to call it quits and accept the fact that I'm never going to have the opportunity to see it again - seeing the choices offerred by my local tv and dvd rentals.

I got to some finale episodes in Holland: the battlegroup was counting down for Op Roundhammer, and then the Chigs sent an envoy and sued for peace. While negotiating, something exploded and killed the captain and the poisonous gas from the envoy's habitat chamber leaked out - that was as far as I got. Can you guys tell me about the next episodes? the more details the better. Did Roundhammer go as planned? was the peacetalk a farce? who died? what's the story about chigs and humans are actually kindred specieses? if you're willing to tell me these episode-by-episode, chronologically and not just lump it all in one big paragraph, I'd be most grateful. Thx in advance

Roundhammer was never actually launched because the stoopid 58th found some cute aliens on a Chig moon and blurted out that there was going to be big boom-booms because they felt sorry for them. Unf these turned out to be big m8s of the Chigs who then sued for an armistice, as you know, cos they're losing and know they're fooked. I dunno how such a bunch of losers like the 58th got their reputation, they were rubbish.

Turns out that Aerotech, the nasty secretive corporation behind the military, knew all along that life on Earth had a common origin with the Chigs (comet debris) but that Chig evolution had been much quicker, only about 1/2 million yrs. So the Tellus colony had been set up with the purpose of drawing the Chigs out, bit sneaky really, considering it got toasted. Kylen Selena and the Tellus survivors are traded with the Chigs but the deal goes sour, Nathan West rescues her and the others from the damaged transport but Vansen, Wang and Damphousse(?) have to stay behind and the last you see of them is the transport falling into atmosphere. I think actually Vansen and Phouse were in the lifter cockpit and Wang was in the cargo pod which had got separated (I seem to recall it got blown up maybe?)

Only West and Coop' the Tank are left at the end. Colonel McQueen was really badly injured in the bomb blast when the Chig ambassador tried to kill the Earth commanders, lost his legs iirc. The admirals and generals got cut up badly too but Commodore Ross was ok. And that's it; that was the end, they didn't make anymore.

the best episode was "Butts;" I fookin' loved Colonel Raymond C. "Kick" Butts. However Vansen's lips scared me, she got more botoxed every episode.

Well the girl was cute, you fly in space which was good, though not in star treks leage, it was good enough to get me hooked.

Collagen. Not botox. Collagen.

Post Thu Jul 29, 2004 9:30 am

I get them mixed up. which is which?

Post Thu Jul 29, 2004 10:16 am

Botox paralyzes muscles that cause lines and wrinkles so that the skin appears more smoothe. But as the injection does not discriminate, it also prevents those muscles from reflecting emotions as well. Thus all those "mask" faced older ladies you may have noticed in American glamour mags. Its not just shoddy plastic surgery anymore.

Collagen is that jelly like stuff that they inject into lips and cheeks to flesh them out. Collagen will eventually become absorbed by the blood stream and carried away from the point of treatment thus requiring periodic refresher injections.

In other words, stay the hell away from both.

Really strange. I don't remember this show at all.

I tried to never miss a show. Col.T. C. McQueen was good for the roll. He and one of the soldiers was a invetro. I always though it was a good show. A hidden foe that you did not know till too late.

Waitaminute....they didn't make anymore? thx a lot Taw, tho I've seen the episodes you described myself - I didn't miss any after all.

Why did it get chopped off so close to the end like that? they didn't make enough money? At least with Firefly noone had developed too much bond with the show

You know what they should do? I mean take a look at what happened to Evangelion - sucky ending and such - the studio then made two MOVIES to conclude the plot. Movies should be a darn good way to end the series

Post Thu Jul 29, 2004 11:44 pm

the studio canned it because it just didn't have the ratings. simple as that. they weren't prepared to finance a second series. Kirsten Cloke was particularly peeved by this decision and lobbied studio execs via the media to change their decision, mais non! c'est fini.

there again, how do you continue from that cliffhanger? 3 of the main characters are dead (supposedely) one is critically injured to the point of never being able to return (probably) so it's sort of been written into a corner. Actually I think that was the intent, because it was dragging out a bit as a show, and this script brought the series, albeit rather clumsily, to an end.

Butts was the best episode, but Col McQueen was the best character - fookin ace when he toasted Chiggy von Richtofen. McQueen could outfly the entire 58th put together.

a lot of the episodes were appallingly bad - Damphousse's telepathy, Nathan's brother (yawn, hurry up and die you little tw*t) that dreadful episode with Martin Jarvis as a British officer replete with pip-pips, tally-ho, and what-whats, Cooper's test-tube "sister," Vansen's folks, - what second rate hack wrote this crap? However there were some crackin episodes - Butts, Cooper's special forces secondment, Chiggy von Richtofen, the one where theyre stuck on some planet for months, the one where they bomb Chiggyworld in a captured Chig bomber - so it wasn't all bad. I watched em all when it was forst on, but watching the repeats I realised it was a lot worse than I'd remembered.

Used to love this show, seen it 5 years ago, but the last episodes weren't very good imo
