ohmylordiedoofun!

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

ohmylordiedoofun!

I have just had the most fun I've had in ages, playing the mother FPS, Doom!
I dug out my shareware copy, and installed it, got the latest ZDoom, and played Knee Deep in the Dead on Nightmare, and it has got to be the most fun i've had in ages. And I mean ages.

The only thing that could make it better woud be if Iron Maiden's Hallowed Be Thy Name was playing in the background. Nope, looks like i got that too!

That's nice ......
So what was the point of this thread ?

Post Wed Jul 07, 2004 10:53 pm

Seems a bit loike advertisin' don't it boys?

Post Wed Jul 07, 2004 10:55 pm

I just wanted to share my experiences with you wonderful *cough* people.

anyway, it shows that some games transend time. can anyone else think of any others?

Post Wed Jul 07, 2004 11:09 pm

we are people you know? not robots put on this earth to entertain you in what can only be described as the biggest lab experiment since records began. So why the *cough*?

aaanyway. its nice you've found a game you like, but the early nineties called, they want their ass games back.

How about loading up Battlefield: Vietnam and with a mate pilotting a huey hellicopter, swoop low over the bush on the machine guns, drilling the treeline with ammunition, covering ground troops as they force charlie back. All the time listening to classic 60s rock anthems. I dunno about you but mine gets me excited just 'talking' about it.

need for speed underground for me, its quite fun, and also scary at high speeds

So we started off with a rather pointless thread about Doom, and now we are comparing "fun" games? *Shakes head* We need a *click* here, stat!

I dunno, I think Doom deserves a thread! Its been a while since we talked about the fecker and his family (wolfenstein, doom 2, return to wolfenstein etc).

Doom was immense when I first played, errr somewhere around 1993 I believe, but Doom 2 - now that was a groundbreaker. Awesome game. Started a genre. Can't imagine either of them stand the test of time though...??

Doom 2 is fun but I think it's past it's day. No mouselook = bad Heltak at FPS

However RTCW is one of the more fun games I've played in FPS terms recently but tthe mod Enemy Territory is just amazing. My fun comes from older games I have, Shattered Galaxy and a couple of others.

I've still got those games. I play through them every once in a while. I started playing them more now that Doom 3's getting closer to being released on August 3rd. ID Software hasn't denied it yet, which is a good sign. I pre-ordered the game at my local GameStop and got cool little pewter statue of a Baron of Hell. It's pretty cool.

im not overly keen on doom 3, i think the engine is pretty amazing, but the game itself really doesnt interest me enough to have me buy it unless i hear that its got groundbreaking story or something.

As a gamer, i thought random shootouts with baddies were the best, then i grew up and found storylines. Before long i was buying and playing games for the story and enjoying the muchbetter. Sure i buy games which look good on occasion, but more often than not im buying because the game experience is gonna keep me entertained and i just dont get it with no-brainers like doom anymore. How is doom 3 gonna be any different to quake 4? come to think of it, did they really need to re-invent the series or is it a marketing ploy to get people nostalgicly remembering doom 1 and 2 as being revolutionary classics that the game is guaranteed hype and media attention, with alot of people buying it just 'because'.

i didnt like doom. instead i played dark forces to death and that was my pooey fps of the time.

nfs underground is quite fun, especially with one of the little mazdas, like the miata you start with, nothing can touch you with pro level equipment attached, i hate to thing what extreme will be like.

I don't mind games with stories. In fact I DO prefer those. But there's something about just running around shooting anything that moves that gets my adrenaline pumping. Sometimes, I just gotta play a game that doesn't require much brainpower, like Doom.

My favorite was always 'Bouncing Babies'- a great game released for the Tandy 1000 way way back. Ladies would hurl their children out of a burning building and your character would be two medics with a stretcher and you'd have to move appropriately to bounce the babies across the screen and into the ambulance before they hit the ground. Talk about entertaining.
