IRC could be bad. Say, we have a person with communicating problems. So, he or she goes to IRC 'cause there's noone to see him/her, and thus the person becomes more and more immersed in internet chats moving firther away froim live communication, which makes the problem worse, etc. A vicious circle. I know one person like this - I stopped talking to him long ago - just can't break through. Otherwise, no harm, I believe. Well, maybe except for forums, namely TLR. Explanation: I should be working right now instead of sitting at the PC and writing nonsense

IRC is not evil. But there are evil people who will take advantage of anything available to victimize others. IRCs and chat rooms were/are a popular way for perv's to lure/entice underaged victims.

IRCs or chat rooms do not have to be banned but I believe that kids need to be taught how to be careful. And, like someone else already said, never give away your personal information in these things. No home address, no real names, no birth dates, no phone numbers, where you go to school, what stores, arcades, theaters or malls you like to go to in which towns, etc., etc., etc.

The really twisted pervs out there will take any information you give out about yourself to figure out a way to stalk you.

IRC is evil. It was invented by the Devil;if you go to help>about on an IRC client app, it clearly says "Beelzebub."

more seriously, I am very careful to shield my kids from online prying and sites i don't approve of. I regularly check the logs of where theyve been visiting and who's sending them emails. However spking for myself its been q some time since I've had to deal with a genuine online fruitcake. I like the ones where they say they're top hackers or they've got a friend who is and theyve got my IP address and its 127.0.0.1 and theyre gonna fry my comp and come round to my house, those are really funny. its incredible how the majority of unstable net loons are, according to what they themselves say, system admins.. yeh after theyve done their homework and mum lets them!

3 & 1/2 yrs for rape? that's nothing

all i can think is that the judge decided that as the woman and her bf had invited him, a relative stranger into the house in the first place and theyd all got hammered together, was an exonerating circumstance. the lack of physical force I don't understand, unless she was unconscious? and her bf was in bed with her? maybe he thought they were going to have a 3some? bizarre..

anyway its totally disgusting, and for rape 3 & 1/2 yrs is a preposterously low sentence and sends out all the wrong signals.

I hate IRC. Lots of strange people out there. Hmm, there are lots of strange people around here too now that I think about it...
