It''s official The End of An Era Interplay is dead! Also ION

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Sigh the rumours were true and I know there is a topic but that's for the rumours.

From RPGDot:
Multiple sources tell us that all is not well at Deus Ex & Thief 3 developer ION Storm. Apparently some 20 - 25 people have been laid off at the Eidos owned Austin based developer. That's not all though as Warren Spector is said to be leaving the company as well. If we receive any more details we'll be sure to post them.

Update: Other sites have confirmed with Eidos that people have been let go, though Eidos denies that Spector is going anywhere.

Update 2: More details are coming in. It looks like people leaving/being laid off is just the start of it, as the company is also changing names..and going PS2 development only.

However, an Eidos executive contacted by GameSpot denied that Spector had exited the organization. "Warren is still there," he said, but would not elaborate. As to the layoffs, the Eidos exec refused to confirm or deny they had occurred. "With the completion of projects, there is always a review of teams," he said, refusing to comment further.

For Interplay, that's not a surprise, they say they've got about 1.2 million us dollars in cash on hand. They're getting sued by their realtor for over $400,000, and they're getting fined about $125,000 for something else. So, not a good day to be Interplay.

PS2 only?!?!
Here's hoping they sell off the Thief and Deus Ex rights to a good developer.

Lets hope they just sell everything to Troika for Fallout 3 but Vivendi get the first pick and they're vulture... *Shudders* Thief made by Blizzard...

They (IONSTORM) sold out to the XBox, so what did you expect !
They go from making a brilliant game (Deus EX), and then make it's sequal dumbed down for the XBox. What I don't like is that good workers are being laid off because a EXTREMELY bad marketing decision made by Warren Spector turned out to be crap (as Expected).

I have a hard time feeling remorse for them, they simply aren't good game developers anymore. Good riddance , and I hope that Warren Spector is kicked out too !

It's a helluva pity, because ION Storm wacked out some fantastic games. The original Deus Ex - it's unsurpassable. Action, story and reality. It's totally immersive. I'm considerably saddened.

What's the story with Invisible War? Was it really that bad? My comp can't handle it, so I have to wait till I upgrade to play it.

The other topic (created by me) dealt with this Heltak. You should know better that to create a second topic on the same issue.

Esqy you dealt with the rumours, I dealt with confirming them AND Ion Storm.

Perhaps we should have a Game Company sticky for these posts?

Bah! You're dealing with technicalities and semantics (that's my job! ). There is no reason that you couldn't have used the other thread. Still, there's not much point arguing about as what's done is done. Anyway, that's my last word on this subject .
