Troy

Hmm, has anyone raised this topic before? Not sure. If so then I apoligize. If not then I'm teh first, obviously

Anyone saw that movie? I thought the hype was bigger then the movie. The 1st part was a bit slow, but teh 2nd part was awsome. I thought the acting was a bit lacking here and there, but in the end I didn't realy bother me anymore.
Generaly I thought it was a good movie and I had a good time watching it.

The confusing thing was however, that I had seen a miniserie about Troy which was quite different. I mean, where in the movie was teh 10 year gap?

Anyone ever read/know the Ilias(sp)? I might check it out cause these "myths" have interrested me for a long time.

Oh, and I thought it was pretty cool to find out where the term "Myrmidon" actually came from.
Anyone who played Freespace 2 knows what I'm talking about

I tried looking for a nice sig pic, preferrably one of a Hong Kong retail market street with all the ugly signs all over the place.
Anyone who can help he get this gets a cooky

I've read "The Illiad", and I knew that the writers wouldn't stick to it. I am not going to see Troy until it comes out at the local Video shop on DVD; the hype put me off, and the reviews have all been negative. My brother in London saw it, and he said that it was pretty bad, but that Bana was quite good and carried the while thing. I don;t think that it is worth my money at this stage.

isnt that the movie where brad pitt is naked?

I'm really looking forward to going to see it. It's the kind of film that cinema is really all about - spectacle. I don't mind the telescoping of the Iliad so it fits into a feature film format, the essentials are there and it'll turn some people on enough into reading Classical myth and legend where they might never before, and that's a good thing.

GTVA Myrmidons, FS2 - top ship, probably only bettered on the Terran side by the GTVA Erinnyes (the avenging Furies of Greek myth )

Hmph. We'll see about that Taw. "Spectacle" maybe, but a good movie? We'll see.

well, i went to see it on saturday. in one word - pathetic. but that is my opinion, go see it for yourself. however, if you want a true experience then go see a movie i saw after it - the cooler. that's right, troy was so bad i had to go and get a remedy afterwards - a good movie and a good couple of beers

I've read the Illiad. In fact I have two versions of it(college level and middle school level). I think the war lasted 14 years so it would be hard to get them all in. Besides we don't have any really good info on it except for the Illiad and maybe some other things.

The movie wasnt neccarily a bad movie, it was just very long. If they would of compacted what happened in it and shaved off about a hour or so it would of been alot better. It depends on if your in the mood to go watch one of those long movies with huge changes in pace as it progresses.
If brad pitt wouldnt of been naked god knows how many times it would of helped alot more too.

Orlando Bloom was awful !
So was Brad Pitt

I really dont care about movie reviews alot anymore. Going to the movies is about a movie I wanna see that looks interesting. I wont cry over the 2 maybe 3 hours I lost on it (its the first place i go to the theater) and I sure as hell am not gonna kill myself over the 8-9 bucks I forked over to see it. So to be completely honest, even if a movie is bad, I dont really care, it took up some of my time and thus it did what it was supposed to. Wether some movie critic liked it or not I dont care about.

PS: I actually really wanna go see Shrek 2, lots of people say its just a ****ty kids movie but screw that, I thought the first one was brilliant so the next one is an obvious choice. Besides, a little childish lighthearted humor never hurt anyone right?

Com - Half of those "kid's movies" have many references and jokes that kids would have almost no chance of getting. "Chicken Run" for example (I have to see that), was a "Great Escape" parody, and I went and saw movies such as Toy Story 2, Monster Inc, Shrek, and many others because I appreciate the satire, and I love animation.

Oh, sorry for the OT .

I have every Pixar movie in my collection, and a hell of a lot of Disney too...there are so many adult references in those films, they're good for every generation in my opinion.

OT: I haven't seen Troy yet, but I can't wait...like Taw said, cinema was made for this sort of film. I'm also looking forward to seeing "The Day after Tomorrow" which I know is going to be trashy hollywood b*ll*cks, but its exactly the kind of film that you HAVE to see on the cinema. They never have the same effect on the small screen.

"The Day after Tomorrow" which I know is going to be trashy hollywood b*ll*cks

From what I've heard TDAT isn't the average patriotic, "the american saves the day" movie. I evev heard that the Bush administration wasn't that fond of the movie because they think that the director is quite negative about the enviroment issues in the US politics.

As for Troy, it's on my "to see" list Haven't read any reviews on it so I don't know what to expect.

Another one is Ocean's Twelve. They shot some part of the movie in Amsterdam and even close to my home, in Haarlem. I managed to see the starts (Damon, Pitt and Clooney), but only for a few seconds.

fantastic! I'm gonna see it anyway, but thats cheered me up no end! I'm looking forward to Ocean's Twelve too...I really liked the remake that came out a couple of years back.

Other big screen gromit-must-sees this summer...

The Chronicles of Riddick (I really enjoyed Pitch Black)
The Stepford Wives (always intregued by remakes)
Around the world in 80 days (because its steve coogan)
Dodgeball (because its ben stiller)
Spider-man 2 (just because)
King Arthur (because I like the look of what they've done with it)
I, Robot (because it looks trashy enough)
The Bourne Supremacy (because I loved the first)
Thunderbirds (no explanation needed methinks)
Alien vs Predator (because I know I'll give in to the temptation)
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (because it looks cool and its got Angelina Jolie in tight leather...nuff said )

What a summer that lots gonna be Thats a whole lotta movie going considering I'm supposed to be saving up for my honeymoon in september! (aaah well, I'll convince my missus to go with me to at least half of that lot, so I may not feel as guilty as I should!)

Am going to see it solely for the battles. I don't expect anything more - Americans doing movies about Europe I bet, everything will be limited to SFX plus some stupid love story - the usual stuff. Same goes for TDAT.

An idea came to my head and is now desperately searching for brain
