Game news, ID needed to rent/buy some games

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Game news, ID needed to rent/buy some games

If you are leaving in New Scotia, well good luck getting some of most fun games

Teens in N.S. now have to show ID to rent or buy violent video games

HALIFAX (CP) - Teenagers in Nova Scotia will now have to show identification when they rent - or buy violent and explicit video games.

The legislature Thursday approved a private members bill that gives store owners the legal authority to check the age of customers. New Democrat MLA Joan Massey, the party's critic for the provincial ratings board, pushed the legislation.

She says most people, including parents and store owners, don't want children to have unrestricted access to violent games.

The effort started when her 14-year-old son came home one day with the video game Grand Theft Auto, which is considered one of the most violent games on the market.

Massey says some of her son's friends are not too hapy with her, saying she's spoiled their fun.

Her answer: "Too bad."

Labour Minister Kerry Morash says the bill was well researched and worth supporting.

He says it will come into effect in six months time.

I don't buy those excessively violent games anyway. I could have fun just with a challenge, all that blood on the screen spoils my view.

Well, just get your parents to buy them. If your parents won't, then you probably shouldn't be allowed it anyway.

@Corsair - Or if your parents aren't of age to get them, you shouldn't be playing video games...

If your parents aren't old enough to play the games, you wouldn't be here.

It is good to see some checking and enforceing the rules now.

i think its a very good idea indeed

Excellent. The good thing is that at least it will be harder for twelve year-olds to kill a local greengrocer for $25 US, and then claim that "'Grand Theft Auto' made me do it!".

Correct Esq.! I wish I had the systems to play the cooler games though. I just have a gamecube Oh well At least Metroid Prime 2, a new Zelda game, and uhhhh I don't will be coming out for it. Why did they give Halo an M rating. I play the demo and there hardly isn't any gore or stuff like that.

Another reason why I want to retire there.

Jagged - You shoot stuff. It's violent.
I don't think the ESRB give a damn how violent it is ....

Post Sun May 23, 2004 11:23 pm

Bloody good idea, you don't want your kids watching R rated movies, same thing IMO.

What a rubbish idea! A normal person would never hurt someone because of a videogame. If so, he should seek professional help. This is another example of the weird laws they have in both the US and Canada.

They allow hunters to kill thousands of INNOCENT BABY SEALS but you can't buy violent video games? I always had respect for the Canadian government but I'm stunned now!

Same as the US! You can't show part of a boob on tv but at the same time, your country has the largest freakin' porn industry in the world!!

If I offended anyone with this post: Bite me!

you know, with age limits, you should have to enforce them or drop them. They should be off limits to older folk too.
