On the nature of dark energy...

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

On the nature of dark energy...

There is an interesting article up at CNN.com about the nature of "dark energy". The article states that if there is a sufficient amount of "dark energy", the universe could continue to expand indefinately. This is probably a good thing, as I was getting worried about time running backwards during the "big crush"; my early years of schooling were ones I'd not like to re-live .

Why, may I ask, would time run backwards? I know that our time is dependent on our universe, but I didn't think it was related to the expansion of the universe in particular. The universe is supposedly slowing down (am I right...?), so wouldn't time be slowing down as well?

Wow. Maybe THAT'S why it took forever to get through exams...

I was going to put something up about this but I figured it wouldn't draw much interest... as is the case with most of my threads....

So far, the proof is that we are continually expanding. What comes after that? No one knows.

Not this AGAIN.......

i just read that article before you posted it..
universe will continue expanding if dark energy is a constant. if it gets stronger we get rippd. if it gets weaker we get crunched.

i don't think that the scientists have actually realised what's going on. the scientists are saying all this stuff *is* this way - whereas they are actually measuring stuff that is millions or billions of years old, they don't know what's going on at the moment - it's all too far away. for all we know, it might already be the opposite, which is, as aurora said, it took for ages to do those last HSC exams

dear god no. i learned my lesson from these.

Aurora - There is a theory that when the universe reaches a certain point of growth, it will not have the ability to continue to expand. Therefore, the universe will either begin to contract, or will tear itself apart. If the universe begins to contract, it is theorised that time will actually run backwards. Unfortunately, I read this about three or more years ago, and the exact explanation in terms of physics eludes me, but I believe that it has something to do with the fact that entropy actually decreases at the same time.

Indy - Everyone reads your threads; they are just intimidated by your brilliant conversational techniques .

It is strange how much "Theorys" scientists have, for which there is no proof. From determining the age of things to the unseen. I wish they would "Admit" that they really don't know. From dark energy, reversing time, black holes ect.

I thought that the missing stuff in the Universe was supposed to be dark matter - and that's what will bring us to the mass we need for a Big Crunch... we already have one unknown quantity here

Well, I'll be dead by the time any of this happens, so why care? Apres moi...

An idea came to my head and is now desperately searching for brain
