Problem with STW, anybody got way to help?

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Problem with STW, anybody got way to help?

Well my Shogun Total War keeps crashing for some unknown reason. I keeps happening after the battle, or just in middle of the game, on the map. Here is the error log:

Also, the problems keep happening since I installed 1.1 and 1.12 patch, does anybody know how to get the game back to 1.0? The patch is instaled on the CD, so reinstal does not work , also anybody got any idea why would I run out of video memory? I got the same amount of memory when game worked and now

Actually - suprised you didn't totally ridcule my obviuos lack of concentration when reading your original post, and being incapable of putting 2 and 2 together! Shogun total war is in the first five words, yet seeing STW seemed to "evade" my thought pattern in deciphering what you meant. Must admit - i thought you were talking about a mod for some game

Whats the game requirements on vid cards, and what have you got? Also - what direct X version, have you got latest updates to drivers as well....etc etc. Apart from that - best wait for Esqy - as he seems to handle vid card probs for FL - so seems a logical choice

And I updated my vid drvie couple days ago, right now my system specs are same as thed ay I bought the game, only difference is the patch I installed for Shogun....which I am trying to get rid of and see waht happenes

"DUSANKA-D4PH5FJ"? What kind of stupid computer name is that? .

Mmm, I see that you're using a Compaq; 'nuff said .

Post Wed May 19, 2004 4:23 pm

How do you know that it worked with V1.0 when you've only got (and i'll assume only ever had) a copy of V1.1? Either way the game is trying to pump more than 32Mb through your Vid card at a time, so I would try some different drivers (the S3 savage is getting pretty old though) and/or if your running at a high res try dropping it right down and see if that has any beneficial effect.
I doubt you'll be able to revert to V1.0 though, it's possible but highly unlikely.

Post Wed May 19, 2004 4:29 pm

Can you change the video options to less graphics, effects and then see if it will play? and less resolution?

edit- It almost sounds like a direct-x problem, as too little memory for me in the past was just to bog it down. hmmm.

Well I know that it worked in 1.0 that way I was able to finish the whole game couple times. Heck the same day before I instaled 1.1 patch I was playing in 1.0 without the problem. As soon as I instaled 1.1 problems started ...and as it seems there is no real way to get back to 1.0 (as you said ), except by buying a new copy of game , but I am not spending money on that. The game originaly was 1.0, there was patch 1.1 which I installed, than yesturday I saw 1.12 and installed the game again hopping it will work...but it does not. Also I had same specs when the game worked, same updated, drives...etc

@Esq

Hehe dont ask about the name, thats what the computer him self choosed. When doing those last reinstals I had no time to think about name, so just skipped that part and focused on fixing the damn Compaq BS

Try uninstalling the game and reinstall it, then try the 1.2 patch and forget the 1.1 version. There may have been a problem with it.

Post Wed May 19, 2004 5:05 pm

Leon - I agree with Final; if you uninstall the game and reinstall it, it will be installed as version 1.0 and not 1.1 unless you patch it again.

It could be that the config has not been set up correctly, as the 1.1 patch may have made alterations to the game's graphics code. Anyway, reinstall it, and DON'T apply the patch; you should be fine .

Post Wed May 19, 2004 5:22 pm

Depends on how "uninstalled" the uninstall function makes things doesn't it?

Post Wed May 19, 2004 5:31 pm

Quite, but few patches write to the registry, etc these days, only the game files, so if he uninstalls the game, and deletes the directory, he shouldn't have any problems.

Post Wed May 19, 2004 6:08 pm

I wish it would be that simple...the patch is copied to the game CD, and can not be deleted as its Read Only CD , I might try the reinstall though...it might work

Looking back at your post, it is there. The patch is the problem, reinstall should fix it. How did you get the patch on the CD? Did you have another original 1.0 game disk?
