You can use AVG anti virus software, which is 100% free if you use the free version, is constantly updated, and rather good. Alternatively - here is something one of my regulars told me:
Anyways - here's my lots recommendations from some time back:
Anti VIr software - free.
OR - this one (no link)
A spiffy program is being offered by E Trust call EZ armor. Go to the Microsoft update page and click on there three steps to protect your computer and on the anti-virus page you will find a linl to etrust. What is cool is the link allows you to try the software free with full support for a full year. The software itself is a suite of products that includes a anti-virus, email protecter, firewall and cast iron popup blocker all in one easy to use and customize package. I have been using it for about a month now and it is sweet. Besides free for a year is hard to beat
OR - use the one i use!!
AVG anti virus 100% Free
For firewalls, mine is a personal one done by Mcfee - or however its spelt - its also 100% free too......
There are lots of free firewalls, check them out.
You can also do online scans - which are always free
By the way - one of the best defences to ALL viruses is to simply stay up to date with microsoft updates - don't ignore them - check them!! Remember - viruses are usually exploiting holes in Windows that are FIXED in updates - as this is how they find out about the vulnerability!
Then - be wise - its called common sense - and don't open mail you don't know. I delete ALOT of emails that i don't know who they came from - mainly as i figure:
1) If it was offical - it would be done by phone/real mail
2) If it was from someone i know, i would know the email address - if not, then there is a reason i don't know them
3) The titles are never relevant to something - then its deleted
4) Attachments to check out that i am not aware about = deletion.
Simple as that
