Van Helsing

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

@Taw:
Hellboy: Good but nothing new. X-Men meets, erm, LXG, meets something else. Entertaining (3*)
Zatoichi: Excellent movie, our man ichi takes out every fooker with style, protecting a town against a Yakuza boss and his Ronin bodyguard. Goes a bit odd, ends with a song and dance number with the surviving cast members and has a fat naked samurai. Its cool, if not a little odd in places.(5*)

"I've seen things you people wouldnt believe.
Attacked ships on fire off the shoulder of orion. Ive seen C-Beams glitter in the darkness at tannhauser gate.
All those moments, will be lost in time, like tears in the rain.
Time, to die."

I find it more amusing that people here went to see that film expecting to see a literary classic in celluloid I'm sorry guys, but the truth is that the only reason you were disappointed with it is because you expected something better. I went in there expecting a load of hollywood blockbuster tosh, throwing together monsters from different eras with wild abandon, hoping to see kate beckinsale in all-manner of corsets and expecting NOTHING from the script or acting. And that, is EXACTLY what I got.

As for the special effects, they were very good, you were obviously looking too closely for the seams. Its like the argument against The Hulk's special effects being too CGI-like....no s***, hate to brake this too ya, but its gonna be bloody hard to cast a 20ft green bloke. Or would you rather we return to the crap of the 70s until CGI is able to make creatures more "life-like"?

I don't expect Van Helsing to be anything other than that, which oddly enuff is why I'm not paying to see it.

sweetness sweetness I was only joking when i said, I'd like to smash every tooth in your head..

i saw it, the SFX were exellent
the story was fun, not too deep
some rather nice cliches
a mix of charecters from different
stories, like Mr Hyde and so

i liked it.

Grom - I agree with most of your views (I won't tell you which ones I didn't agree with though ).

Essentially, I enjoyed it, however the plot seemed rather fragmented and confused, and I did not see how various elements linked together, nor the explanations of a number of events. There was overacting and well as general corniness ("It's alive!!!" anyone? ), and yet it wasn't too bad. Still, it's mindless fun with nice effects, and will probably find it's way into the DVD collection (when it's cheap).

Note: I would have enjoyed it more, but the sound in the cinema was so loud that I had to use earplugs. I think that I lost a decent amount of higher frequency sound due to this, but I'm just glad I remembered to bring them!

I've just remembered - the best part of the whole film (it actually happens twice) is when the young vampires burst like balloons with a sound almost exactly like the balloon popping sound from RollerCoaster Tycoon

I expecting it to be like the mummy. not really much brains needed, just a lot of pretty visuals, and one-liners to quote afterwards.

I know alot of films are riddled with cliches and plotholes, (contact anyone?)
but certain films are done in a certain way to make me giggle. especially films that poke fun at themselves. (jay and silent bob strike back? it was just a 90 minute film about two stoners proving that they're not gay. But the constant turns to camerea really cracked me up. a jay and silent bob movie? who would pay to see that? [turn to screen)

Interesting, you go further off-topic as your post goes along Vi. Now I know that you've been afflicted with Wolfy Syndrome .

The final fight scene was quite good, but a little short an formulaic in my view.

Saw it today, and i saw it on Monday. James Bond mixed with Indiana Jones, trow in some monsters (Frankensteins creature, Dracula, Vampires, Undead, People that live for 2000 years yadda yadda). Then we take LOT'S of very well done 3D effects, and voila , Van Helsing. Or, as it mosly sounded, Fan Halsing!
