what would you lot recommend would make good photos?

I sugest a camara Oh dear, I did it again.

Anyway...I always enjoyed the light of a sunrise/sunset. Especially when the sunlight reflects against the clouds in all kinds of colours, with the horizon miles and miles away, not ubstructed by trees/houses/filthy undustrial poluting factories/whatever kind of building.

That's one of the few reasons I enjoy Autumns

ff, if you really plan on doing some photos, I'd recommend the Hastings Cliffs and Hever Castle, they're goddamn stunning and from Hastings you get a brilliant view of the channel...

Kent has a bloody nice countryside, USE IT!

@ff the photos I showed you were taken less than a month ago...weather is no excuse. It was bloody windy on one of the days, but it seperated the clouds so the picture actually looked better for it.

BTW I've only been in kent 2 years...21?!! Pah! (pullin' ya leg before you flame!)

@mustang - I'm not sure which one you mean. There are 2 boats here and a sub. The boat I mainly took pictures of is called the HMS Gannet, its a victorian sloop that launched here in 1878. The second is called the HMS Cavalier, it was the lead destroyer of the british fleet in WWII....its now the last destroyer of its kind and is here as a memorial to the people who died in the navy during the war. The sub is called the HM Submarine Ocelot, and there is very little known about it. It was built here in the sixties and was used during the cold war for top secret missions - very little else is known. The beauty of the dockyard is that you can go on board all 3 vessels, which makes for great photo opportunities as I work in an office inside the dockyard, less than 100m from them. I was commissioned by the dockyard to take photo's for their new website, which someone else was designing.

Well as taw said, it ain't really a good excuse, as Taw knows what the landscape looks like around here he can tell you something about it. (He has actually been within 6 miles of where I live, Anna Paulowna, lies close to Van Ewijckssluijs, where Taw was at the time) I have lived here all mylife, and know the surroundings inside out, but thats the benefit of a hunt here and there. not flaming you, just so you know

I liked the first picture Grom; the interplay of light and dark due to the reflective qualities and texture of the metal creates a nice effect.

ff - Photo size on digital cameras is largely dependent upon three factors; size, quality, ands editing.
Size - If you have a small memory card, then you will need smaller, ie. less detilaed and more highly compressed pictures.
Quality - If you want to use the photos as desktop images, or print them out for framing, then you will want a good quality image, ie. one with less compression, that will save medium-size files.
Editing - If you wish to edit the photos and touch them up in PS, etc, then you will need your photos to have little to no compression, which will create medium to large files, depending upon the res.

It all depends upon what you want.
