On my windows XP pro (Which is my familys computer) I was reading that I should delete a hotfix KB824141 because it messes up games and slows donw the computer. Now I get a Blue screen of death at launch and I cant do anything on it and I transfered my 30 gigs of data to it and IT CANNOT BE ERASED WITH RESTORE BECAUSE I CAN NEVER GET IT AGAIN. How can I fix this and get past it?
Yeah. Set the drive to slave mode and move it to another computer. You could try using a boot disk and see if it helps.
That, or reinstall Windows. The contents of the drive, except for your existing configurations etc, should be preserved. Be careful of your "My Documents" directory if you're using XP, though, because it may override it if the usernames are the same. Not 100% sure though.
Hmm.. do you remember what it said for the Blue Screen of Death? Sometimes it's useful to know what is causing it.

Ok so restoring with the windows disk wont overwrite the fiels in My documents if I have it named the same?
It shouldn't do, just don't go formatting your disk. However, you would have been better off partitioning the disk and storing your important stuff there, to late now though but it's something to remember for future reference.
it's that dam lsass.exe service again, i don't think MS have got the sec. update patch q right for it because, q bizarrely, my work pc started f***ing about at login, after installing that same update just like Supasnipas (apt name btw, seeing as I'm the one you snipe at most. kicked your dog in a past life, did I? )
anyway i fixt it by extracting a clean copy of the file from the XP Pro cd in recovery console, booted, ran RFA, sorted. took a whole 7minutes.
