Longhorn System Requirements Leaked

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Longhorn System Requirements Leaked

An article over at Microsoft Watch states that the system requirements for Longhorn have been leaked. They are quite interesting, and I'll quote them below;
Microsoft is expected to recommend that the "average" Longhorn PC feature a;

-Dual-core CPU running at 4 to 6GHz
-A minimum of 2 gigs of RAM
-Up to a terabyte of storage
-A 1 Gbit, built-in, Ethernet-wired port
-An 802.11g wireless link
-And a graphics processor that runs three times faster than those on the market today.

The full article is available through this link.

Hmph, and I thought that I might upgrade in 2005...

What about those who are running beta's now? They don't have this setup. I would still want to switch when it comes out. What is the current top speed out right now that can be bought?

You can get single-core 3.6GHz Intel Prescott's at the moment. That's about the highest, although GHz are not important anymore. When I'm not so sick and dizzy, I'll tell you about it if you are interested.

I look forward to it. And hope you get to feeling better.

Thanks Final; I actually took two days off work because the cold was so bad. I'm running at about 78% currently .

damn! how much is a terrabyte and how many megabytes go into a gigabyte (i forgot damnit)

I have my doubts about those specs. For an OS to require performance like that it has got to be doing some very amazing things. I've got XP running comfortably on a 450Mhz with 64Mb RAM, now to require specs to be upped by 10 times i'd be expecting Longhorn to do my shopping, clean my car and take me out for a romantic evening once in a while.

Maybe it's the upper limits to what it can handle. MS is not stupid enough to expect every user to have that much computing power. If they want to make money (and we know they do) they won't leave out 99% of the market. And I don't think technology will be that high for an average user for at least another 5 years.

It could also be a server OS, not a home one.

I wonder if Microsoft will turn into Skynet anytime soon...It would make sence...

I agree with mustang: Those system requirements are out of this world. I'm still running Win 98. My next OS will be XP. And that's where I'll stay for good.

"Longhorn" is just a codename for the new operating system. I believe one of the earlier Windows platforms was called "Chicago."
