you lot are a bit behind on the times,
i saw this on the news 2 years ago, the water superheats because it is being energised but not disturbed, so the atoms have the energy stored, but arent releasing it. As soon as a solid object breaks the water membrane, the water acts its energy level and evaporates rapidly, usually explosivly because the water underneath evaporates before the top, spraying hot water everywhere.

Finalday - Jermemy Clarkson went and put eggs in a microwave to explode them on his show, which was funny. Best bit was when he put in 5 to represent the Spice Girls (was back in around '99 i think) and they blew up.....blowing the door on the microwave open with egg going everywhere
