Buying a new comp

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Buying a new comp

I went to Fry's Electronics today and saw a really great computer. It was only like 1,100 bucks, it has 3.0 gigahertz pentium 4, 120 gigabyte hard drive, 512 ram (upgradeable to 2 gig) and a free AGP slot. This means if i were to buy one, pickup a good card and some ram you think it may be a good comp?

He,He, I saw a comp of that price for $350.
I ain't telling where though ......
Let's just say I got a Pentium 3 (With Geforce 3) for $20 at the same place.

And no, it ain't illegal.

Depends what kind of ram, hard drive and mobo it's using. Cheap PC's usually have cruddy generic components, especially in the RAM dept. Def. good specs though but I can't really say if that's a good price or not, cause I always think in Aus $.

Don't forget about crappy motherboards, and crappy GFX (judging by the free AGP, it prolly utilizes onboard graphics :X)

thats pretty expensive going on the limited apecs you gave
and as already said it sounds like its onboard graphics so until you add a card you will have a lot less than a half gig of ram as the graphics will be using some of the system memory

$1100 is about £850, so no it's not a good deal at all, I could build a kick@ss machine for that money that's a lot better spec'd. Don't buy it, it's not a bargain.

(YESSS i've ALWAYS wanted to say that)

Yeah, build one yourself. I built mine for £900 back in november (nFroce2 mobo, Radeon 9800 pro, SbLive, 1gb PC3200 DDR, Xp2800+ barton.)

I could build a better machine than that!

...free AGP slot...
What the hell does that mean? They charge you for each slot now?

Unless he's talking about an open slot, using only shared memory. Which would explain the lower price with that fast a processor. Hmm, would have to think about it for a bit. Cost of building one, and getting it vers, this and upgradeing it.

OK, So i decided to build one. So I need a Motherboard (probably getting an Asus from that thread you guys had earlier) a good hard drive. and all those general goodies heres my main problem, I dont know a thing about assembling them .

Comont, didn't that $1100 include monitor, keyboard and mouse? Also, is it bundled with software too? I would agree that if that $1100 was for the cpu box only, it is not a good buy, expecially with no AGP graphics card to speak of.

Also, what is the speed of that 120gig HDD? 5400rpm? 7200rpm?
