Civilizations game

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Civilizations game

Anyone played any of these games?
I'm playing Civ. 3 at the monent, and it's BRILLIANT!
There is one thing that annoys me though. In Call To Power (a kind of Civ. spinoff), in diplomacy, you could choose a tone of voice, ie. Kind, Polite, Obseqious/Meek, Indignant, and Angry. I loved this feature as it added tons of depth to the game, but I'm very annoyed that this wasn't put in Civ.3. I think they did this just so they had an excuse to put those FMVs of great rulers glaring at you in the diplomacy screen, but they could've just as easily had the exact same interface, only with a tone changer box at the bottom. Just a shame really...
Aaaanyway, does anyone know any good Civ sites with forums?
It would be good to talk to other Civ lovers...

I'm a big fan of the Civ series, but I was forced to uninstall the lot due to the fact that I no longer had a life.

The only thing that annoys me about the games is that you are usually just getting into it when the space race is due - and then the game ends. Very annoying. Great games though...they have the ability to take over your life, which in my book makes it a great game.

I agree, it ate my life away whilst i played Civ 2, haven't tried Civ3.........

@Gromit- I agree, it's not long enough (although in reality you've probably been playing for about 100 hours by then... how time flies when you're having your country invaded...). In fact I think it's the length of the games that make it so engrossing. In this game, matches last about 100X longer, so you actually CARE if you've been invaded by X because they've been your allies ever since the great war with Y, or if you've succeeded in launching your massive amphibious invasion of Z, because you've been engineering it for about 20 hours (that happened to me once... I had just built up the most awe-inspiring invasion of all time, when, right on cue, the hard-drive is wiped.
Ironically, this is when I actually stopped playing Civ long enough to play Freelancer, and I now play FL far more than Civ...

@Chips- you should really try it, although I've never played Civ2, just CTP2 and Civ3 and the Conquests exp. pack.

I have played all the Civ games and I like them better then FL but the problem is my games last so long and the enemy gets so big the turns take for ever to change because i play with a full game of computers

If you haven't already, try Alpha Centauri, I like that better than the civ games personally, it's made by the same people anyway.

Dunno...
I like Civ.3 better. Firstly, I only like futuristic strategy if it's in space, secondly, I find the graphics simply too horrible to look at to play it for more than 5 minutes without giving up and playing something else.
Thirdly, it's not really THAT much like Civ, especially not Civ3, and definitely not like the expansion pack, it's fairly like it, but closer to the Call To Power range I think.

I've played them before, but I never really liked them. I dunno why...

Alpha Centauri I loved and I just picked of Rise of NAtions which is better then both of them. RON is a mix between Age of Empires and Civilization and the maker is guy who made AC (Sid Meiers didnt make this one) and head of all the civ games (Brian Reynolds).

RON is a very good game. It only lacks is a plot, but the expansion for it has just shipped so we'll see if it adds one.

I stick with Age of Empires II and RON... Never could figure out how to play civilization series. turn based games are too restricitive for me. Rise of Nations is definately one of the best strategy games currently out there, although I think Age of Empres II (not AOM) is still on top. Never get tired of it.
