bah the only hard instrument is the damned bells

Wolfy, you couldn't be more right on that. I had to play those for a few songs last year (as well as set, snare, cymbals, tambourine, shaker...) and for those it's like playing a set with 1" diameter drums. By the concert after three months of practice I was able to play them with few mistakes.

Wolfy, You get rest. Not two weeks ago I had to stand there from 1:45 to 4:30 at practice with cymbals. Couldn't put them down. That and I have to play real quick with them too. Not the star spangled banner where there's an occasional crash. No, this was constant playing. This reminds me, am I the only percussionist here?

Edit: Also, we can't haul home school instruments to practice. I can't afford to even rent some instrument I play for a three minute song. I have a set, two snares and several sets of sticks, that's it.

@cowami... Im a flautist. Just outside of class now, i swapped to Alto/soprano sax a few years back and am now enjoying a pair of cushy first chair positions in both my band classes. Anyone got tips for some of those darn altissimo notes? I get nothing but squeaks on most days.

altissimo is the term used for really high notes (i'm not sure if it applies for other instruments as well) that go beyond the normal range of the saxophone (above F3).

And that's as low as my fingering chart gets, but I know I've hit even lower notes, like "megalow" F. (At least... I *think* it's an F.. it's very hard to tell.)

I met someone who plays Horn in the Calgary Phillharmonic. She can play 'superhigh'-C. I'm "liek: wtf". Amazing.

My band teacher has a chart in his office showing the tonal range of various musical instruments. The Horn is outmatched only by the likes of Pianos and other stringed instruments. (I think... I'm sure it's like the 3rd or 2nd largest range on there). Anyway, it's got a bigger range than all instruments previously mentioned in this thread (save the piano and other stringed instruments)

by what your chart goes by, what i played is the "super duper high" B. because you say that the first A above the staff is the super high A. so the super high C is a double high C....i dont go by "super" though, because how high "super" is, is totally and opinion that varies from person to person. super high for me is higher than triple high G

Firstly trumpets can go much higher than horns. Secondly, horns are transposed to a different key, so the scale I drew is not the scale for a trumpet.

I can go lower than you, though :p
