30 Years of D&D!

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

30 Years of D&D!

It's true; 30 years ago in 1974 the phenomenon known as D&D was first created. Quite a milestone, and it's certainly as popular today as it was then. That's probably a good thing . Oh yeah, have a link to an article celebrating this. I remember the good old days when I used to play...

uhh I dont care about that strange game.

Post Mon Apr 26, 2004 3:53 pm

So what? If you don't have anything constructive to add, why bother posting then?

Post Mon Apr 26, 2004 4:56 pm

Why did you bother posting this useless topic?

Post Mon Apr 26, 2004 5:04 pm

i puke at the very mention of it

Post Mon Apr 26, 2004 5:07 pm

Firstly, it is not a useless topic. A number of people around here (eg. grison21372) have either played, or have friends who play D&D. Furthermore, many of us have fond memories of playing the game in question. Do you deny me my privilege to post a topic about D&D on this forum?

Secondly, I posted tihs topic because it is an impressive milestone, and because I thought that some people on TLR might find it interesting even if you (or Kimk ) don't.

Yes, there's been enough puking around here. Besides D&D is a fun social activity. I wish I played PnP more but I don't get the chance anymore.

It's an axe, I use it to...hack at people

Actually I don't think this is a useless topic at all. I don't play D&D...I never really could be bothered enough to read all of the books....but I'm fascinated by the fact its 30. As a kid I always wanted a go after I saw Elliot's brother doing it in ET

Leave esq alone, I'm sure a lot of people will be interested in this...if all you can do is SPAM with complaints do it somewhere else...at least esq has taken the trouble to start a thread about something he's interested in.

Before my time way before my time but anyone got site for it? i might give it a try

I still play today I have a group of friends that used to be hardcore now they play when they can. I (and they ) still manage to find new people to play or ones that played along time ago but forgot how fun it was. It is not for every one, same as in video games (I like both ) but it is not useless nor does it induce nausea (unless you have a really good descriptive dm ) So happy B-day D+D may you reign another 30 years and as long as I can get people to play I will.

remember without D+D or its precursor chainmail there would be no video game rpg's (evercrack anyone?)

Esquilax,

Cool article. I never played D&D a whole lot, but I played tons of other RPGs. I still play them occasioanally (like once a year maybe..lol). Role playing games are so unique to other styles of gameplay. The article sums it up really. You have rules and paper and pens and dice, but it's up to your imagination to fill in the rest. I love that aspect. There are no limits. It's a great forum for storytelling and a chance to just hang out with friends and have a few laughs.

Happy Birthday D&D!

If you look at the article, it says

I never played the original D&D, but I used to have some of those adventure books, the same general idea of rolling dice, caves, monsters etc. I lacked the commitment to play them fairly though
