How well does Far Cry run?

I picked up Far Cry yesterday, and it is quite good so far. I was just wondering how well it runs on people's machines, because it is perfectly playable on my PC, in 1280x960 with most of the option set to "High" or "Very High" (with the exception of AF - "Medium"

, and I haven't OC'd my 9700. Either my computer is better than I think it is, or else the game is not as graphically intesive as previously thought.

The demo, of which I was NOT impressed, ran fairly well. At 640X480, which is where I run most of my games at, it was fairly smooth, the water effects were incredible. It's just not my type of FPS though. I like having the option of running in guns blazing and not having to worry about dying with a shot to the head. This game sucks for that.

I have never been killed by a headshot yet, but you have such limited health that it makes the game challenging. The fact that some of the monsters can kill you with one or two "slaps" makes it irritating though.

Run's reasonably smooth for me with everything on medium at 1280x1024. The latest detonators drivers are crap though (lots of crazy stuff going on in game), I had to revert back to 52.16. So I took a bit of performance hit there.

Soon I am going to get a comp and put a Radeon 9800 XT in it and play this game along with Hlife 2

Far cry is meant to be chalenging, i play with all settings on low, and it still looks great, not as great as if it where on v. high settings of course.

Mustang - You own an nV card?!?! *Shakes head* Poor guy...

Taw - Far Cry is definately worth getting, if for no other reason that to "wow" at the graphics, but I'd see if you can get it cheaply at a swapmeet or something. I hope you have the specs to pull it off though!

fook graphics, it's gameplay and AI that matter. Graphics are for girls/kids, men play for the challenge.

Taw, if its challenge you want, lock your self in your room and play it on all 4 difficulty levels

I only play anything on one difficulty level and that's hardest. tis the only way to experience any computer game.

Nah, thats why Taw spends so much time here....he never gets past the opening credits on any game he buys
