Im infected with Netsky-B I think, i downloaded that program and it found well over 800 infected files. Even after "healing" and deleting the files it still detected 36 it couldnt remove.........strange........

Just a ques we use two pc's on a network, the main one connecting to the internet has virus protection the other one dont will the main on block viruses and stuff or is it compulsory to put virus scanner on the small one as well?

I´ve been fortunate enough to never had any "virus attacks" on my computer and I´m quite laid back when it comes to security except on the comp I check my mail on.

I haven´t heard about your AV proggie Chips, but my personal preference is found at http://www.freeav.com

Spybot Search and Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/)is also a program I use which protects your comp from malicious sites on the internet. Very effective to protect the so called *dumb users*.

Against spam I use Mailwasher (use google to find it), which is semi effective and nothing I would warmly reccomend.

All programs are free for non-commercial use

For firewalls I totally trust my router and not software firewalls which I believe causes much more inconvinience than safety.

...and that´s all that stands between me and my precious comps :-/

sw - If you are using one machine to connect to the internet, then it is probably ok to have that one with an AV scanner only, as long as it monitors all incoming files. Personally, I would scan everything a second time on the other PC. But then, I'm paranoid .

Taw - I can't remember having a virus or trojan on a PC since the old days of the "Stoned" and "Bouncing Ball" viruses (those were the days; damn floppies! ). Still, I'm getting on in years, and the mind's going .

Cansu was the one and only one I was ever infected with, 95 i think that was. Never had another.

in which case you've prob got automatic updates set in the system applet to download and install, in which case you won't find any updates. Or your browser isnt refreshing

removed it permissions, then stopped
automatic update, here's why

Automatic update:
it takes HOURS (with 512Kb/s broadband)
it takes 100% processor power
so that you are unable to do anything
else, there you go, my PC is
buggered "innit"

yeh AoD are you EVER gonna fix this dam pc? so far you've trashed a laptop and managed to reduce this pc to a smoking ruin almost. Why don't you just repartition and reformat the thing and reinstall from scratch?
