This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Hey everyone whats your favourite movies and why? just something to discuss i guess. mine has to be Highlander 2- The quickening, cos its the greatest and my families castle is shown it in many times
no it's not. Wonderful as it is, it is most def NOT the greatest movie of all time.
terms like greatest, best etc are all sunbjective generalisations; what are your criteria? If it's simply "the film i enjoyed the most" then say that. That's perfectly acceptable. But if you're trying to say that LotR trilogy is better than Citizen Kane, or Ran, or a host of other truly great films, then I'm afraid that isn't so
One thing LotR suffers from is some very obvious editing. RotK is especially bad for this, you can see huge continuity gaps and think, wtf? even if you don't know the story already.
I lurv LotR and watch all 3 at least once a fortnight, but it is not the greatest film of all time; that's Apocalypse Now (or Cinema Paradiso) (or Ran)

LoTR was made for the masses. A lot of people havent read the books so
PJ and co puts in lots of exciting stuff ie. fighting and leaves some of
the more 'boring' stuff out of the movie, which sucks 'cause it leaves gaps
in the story. But the extended dvds will fill it in.
And to answer your question RoTK is my favorite movie.

Maybe I'm being controversial here (but most likely just plain daft) but I never really found Apocalpyse Now all that interesting. I've watched it twice in the hope that I might see something that I'd missed before but yet again I found myself battling to stay awake (I guess watching the Redux version doesn't help). The story moves along about as quickly as the boat moves up that river. Maybe it's because most of the scenes seemed cliched to me since I've probably seen all the young pretenders to Apocalypse's crown.

is this sarcasm? I'm not usually one to put down people's tastes in movies, I am fully aware that it is subjective - and have made this point on many an occasion on TLR....HOWEVER! Highlander 2 has to be one of the worst films ever to have been made!! It wasn't even worth "straight to video" status...truly awful murdering of what was, in its time, a great franchise. Urrgh! Sorry! Had to be said!
here
and put Kill Bill in at #12
and Highlander 2? Grom was being kind; it's an insult to celluloid, I'm afraid. It's not simply that I don't like it, it's badly written, badly directed, badly acted, the sfx are simplistic and crude, it lacks any of the charisma and charm of the first one and Bond is it's only saving grace. I can't believe you like it so much. Why? Even out and out Highlander fans say it's t*ss.
Rec, I consider you to have excellent taste in films, so I'm surprised to find out that A.N.isn't not on your hotlist. I saw it at the flicks before any of it's "clones" were made so I remember the impact it first made and still has on me. It's actually not really a Vietnam film at all, that's just the locale. Have you read Heart of Darkness?

Sorry to rant on about this, I went to buy a DVD a couple of months ago and they were giving away copies of Highlander 2 with every purchase. The high point is when Sean Connery would like a suit of clothes and that's NOT really saying a lot, it's definately Michael Ironside worst ever work and that IS saying a lot. Ditto Independence Day, sorry Steve I thought it was complete and utter crap.
and as for Rec's comment about Apocolypse Now!, I really have to agree. I honestly can't see the attraction that people have with this movie. Don't get me wrong I think it's a good movie (I even bought Redux) but I honestly don't think it deserves the praise it gets.
As for best flick, well I just finished watching Schindler's List on dvd, so that's fresh on the mind. Definately Spielbergs best work, I honestly don't think he'll ever top it. Others are (and i'm sure im forgetting some): The Great Escape, Ben Hur, Patton (George C Scott's best ever work), Gangs of New York, The Shawshank Redemtion, Bridge on the River Kwai, Saving Private Ryan, Blade Runner. And last but not least I am going to be unpopular and put Return of the King in here. Discount the other two, they are not worthy, but Return of the King was definately one of the most accomplished films i've ever seen.
