Purple?

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

maybe...just maybe...it fancied a change? it can be awfully boring work being a monitor ya know...

He, good one Grom!

Well Nickless me old mucker, let us know if you have any further problems, and we can tease you some more .

Maybe you should stop kicking your monitor. Emergency Repair Procedure #1(kicking anything that doesn't work) rarely works, unless you want something done around the house.

IT WORKS AGAIN YAAAAY

ahem, sorry, but it stopped showing purple site-layouts.
I still don't know what the hell happened, but I'm pretty sure that whatever happend happened twice (Power failure, blew a fuse).

Anyone farmiliar enough with comps to answer this for me?

@Nick,

>>>>Below is a technically uninformed and purely anectodal response<<<<

You said it's a TFT/LCD monitor right? Sounds like it may be going to go eventually. Sorry. I had a laptop do something similar although I wouldn't say it was purple. More sort of a greying/fading of what should have been a darker and richer black or dark color. At first, it would go back to normal and stay that way for a week or so but then the fading would start again. About 6 months or so it just stopped displaying one day.

The tech guy said sometimes they overheat and do that. I didn't quite follow what he was saying.... it sounded like gibberish really. TFT uses more electricity than a simple LCD (non-backlit) so my GUESS is that you might have one that is wearing out due to heat.

Erm... where the heck is that purple color - I almost felt willing to see it. I mean, I checked out the jpg - nuffin'. Nick, could you pass me some of the stuff you're using?

An idea came to my head and is now desperately searching for brain

Post Tue Apr 13, 2004 2:21 pm

That JPEG isn't purple! At least, not on the LCD screen at work that I have in front of me. Nick, it's sort of hard to say; it could be anything. I could throw a lot of theories at you though, would that help? Have you considered taking it in for repairs? Why do you have an LCD anyway? CRTs are still far superior.

Post Tue Apr 13, 2004 2:57 pm

yay! go Esq! CRTs are MUCH better.

Post Tue Apr 13, 2004 3:44 pm

Indeed! Those 12ms LCDs are still awful for gaming! Still, the impressionable think that they are better, and then when they try to play Far Cry... "I ain't afraid of no ghosting"!

Post Tue Apr 13, 2004 5:07 pm

The days of the 50 ton behemoth CRT are coming to an end.

I love my 17" LCD. It is plenty sharp, very clear and lets my play FL with everything turned on. No problem.

Best of all I get all 17" so it is more like a 19" CRT. And it weighs all of 10 lbs, most of it being a counterweight in the base to make it stable.

Try playing a good (see modern) FPS with your monitor on 1280x960 at 85Hz. THEN tell me there's no ghosting!

Post Tue Apr 13, 2004 5:57 pm

Hm.... I guess I'll have to download one. You mean like Doom or something right?
Believe it or not, I don't have all that much in the way of breadth of game experience.
Freelancer was a lark purchase. ..... Little did I know....... Uh. I am running it at that resolution right now but I don't know the Herz.

Sandra says my monitor can do up to 75Hz NI not sure that I am though.

Try something like HL or something.

I got a TFT for several reasons but mainly because it saves me room. Try stacking a 19" CRT (Yes I know it's better, good ole stuff, don't make em like that anymore do they) on the same spot of a 17" TFT and you tell the difference
And a TFT has a wider screen then a CRT of the same measure.
And a TFT kinda looks better imo.
And I was the 1st person I knew about with a TFT

Yes I know af the delay, but for FL you don't realy notice.

I just hope it doesn't drop dead like Indy's. But I got a warrentee of 3 years left, so I'll be alright.

Not sure why you guys couldn't/can't see the purple I saw. My guess is that the Screenshot thingy just dumps the digital info in it's mem before it goes to the monitor (You still with me?) so the info said no purple, but the display screamed purple. Next time I'll take a picture of it

Well I can understand space restrictions; I have enough trouble with my 19" CRT on my small desk. Still, watch out for those LCDs. What's your dead pixel policy like, Nick?
