Fix My PC!

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Fix My PC!

Ok, for some reason, my pc just overclocked itself and its crashing all the time because the fan cant cool it efficiently.
It should be running at 1.25 Ghz but its running at 1.7 Ghz.

Anyone know how i can bring this down. Its literally crashing every 10 minutes.

ROFL, reset bios? pull out the battery on the mobo for a while, i guess.

Post Fri Apr 02, 2004 1:59 pm

Set BIOS beack to the original value, if that dosent work, well then ur $crewed, i think...
Weird thet your mobo overclocked it itself...
if that dosent work, you COULD just fork over $200 or so and buy a top-end PCI CPU cooling system...

Sounds like your FSB is set wrongly. In the bios, change it down one notch, if it's still not right, then down another etc...

Sorry, I don't know what the FSB should be for your processor. (Although at a guess i'd say it's 133 (266mhz)

Call the Computer Repairer Okay...

so simple!!

Post Fri Apr 02, 2004 3:25 pm

Did somebody call?

I agree, reset the BIOS, and then let us know what the settings are. What have you been doing to your PC, Arcon?

Post Fri Apr 02, 2004 3:45 pm

Strange for that to happen though. I've never known of a BIOS to change it's settings all by its itty bitty self.

I agree with Mustang. There's no way a computer can just overclock itself. It could be a virus, but I don't know of any virus that would or could deliberately attack the bios. Weird.

Have you tried Scanning to see if there is a virus on your Pc

My comp no longer shuts down, just says "Windows is shutting down"
Could it be the NetSky.D? I know I have it, don't know how to get rid of it tho

Im thinking more along the lines of a naffed mobo but I could be wrong.

I've had the BIOS disconnect the soundcard by itself before, it's happened twice on the same machine.

Post Sat Apr 03, 2004 1:42 pm

Yeah, sometimes when the battery power low it will reset to defaults. I've seen it a few times, my old PC did it, luckily it set the FSB to 100 and the processor was 133 so it was underclocking it when it happend.

That is a possibility. I too, have had problems with dodgy MB batteries. They can cause a "whole mess of problems", as they say,

What were you doing just before this happened?
