Man - DON'T OPEN UNKNOWN EMAIL!!! Simple as that - i mean when they warn the world NOT to open attachments UNLESS you know WHO sent it - then you have no-one to blame but yourself. NOTHING in this life is free - so don't be expecting the "free password" to be one either. I cannot believe some poeple are still opening these

Wofly - do you also have adaware, and spybot search and destroy? Those can pick up trojans and stuff too - best getting them if you don't, best using them if you do

I've been getting alot of email like that recently And I've just begun to start protecting my system now cause of it wish I had earlier.

I had a super Ego, but it was pestering me so I killed it.

When I shot it the bullet grazed my soul, and that bled to death too

BE - Well, we do keep warning you .

Wolfy - Do you know anything about registry editing? If not be careful, but see if anything appears in your registry under this folder; "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\"

If you don't know how to edit the registry, then use the "Run" command, and type "regedit", and then browse through the folders until you see the above folder. Just don't delete anything; unless I tell you to that is!

Also, don't you have a spyware and/or trojan scanner?!?! *Shakes head* I hope that you do.

Alright. Try reinstalling AVG, and getting the most recent updates, as there are some viruses around that actually disable AV SCanners, etc. Also, check the startup section using "msconfig". Tell me what's starting up in there. Personally, I'd reinstall Windows. That'll fix your problems .

Mustang just sent me some infected email attachment. It came from the address in his profile and told me to go to the thing and use the "free password". I'll have the virus name here soon... The virus was W32.Beagle@mm!zip

Mmm, there's nothing overtly suspicious there, but there are so many possibilities. Try to use an online virus scanner, as your scanner may not be detecting it.

Why you'd open an email from an address like "[email protected]" I'll never know.

One last thing; Do you have a file called "winsys.exe" in your Windows folder? Are there any strange-looking exe's in your Windows folder?

I still say that you should reinstall Windows.

@Esqy,

Unless I missed an update, I think Wolfy is still struggling with a clinker HDD anyway. Don't know that he need bother with a reinstall of the OS when what he likely needs first is a new HDD.

"winsys.exe" is the name of one of the worms that is around. I just thought that it was worth checking. Thanks Indy, I had forgotten that; get a new HDD and reinstall Windows, Wolfy! Then all of your problems will float away... trust me!

You're crazy! Seagate drives are full of bad sectors! At least, the three I picked up from the local computer shop were. Needless to say, I don't shop there anymore! I have had bad experiences with Seagate, and so have a number of people I know, but give them a try anyway Wolfy. What's the worst that could happen?

Post Wed Mar 17, 2004 2:42 am

no they're not, that's just your cr*ppy shop in the outback/Melbourne (wherever) buying hooky gear. All mine have been perfect and I haven't had a single one RMA'd (yet)
