Win patch?

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Win patch?

Has anyone seen a Messenger based popup talking about a patch needed for windows? The address given is www.window-patch.info . It does not show up as a virus or worm and it leaves no cookies behind. I have not gone to the address shown and probaly won't.

I've seen those on another computer. It's like a mafioso technique, hit the person with a pop-up then tell that person to pay them to stop those pop-ups. There's a setting somewhere in Windows, Explorer, or Messenger that turns that off, I did it for the person, but I can't remember what setting it was nor where I found it.

BTW, all actual Windows patches come from www.microsoft.com.

@Fd

What SnS said in double triple spades. Also, any update or patch from Microsoft for windows is addressed to their update ASP site which is readily accessible using the Windows Update Manager feature which should be either in your start up bar or in your Accessories / Utilities folder.

My updater has been disabled since I reformated. And I know that MS does the updates. I was qurious if anyone else had seen this and maybe find out where it comes from. It comes as an official looking popup.

@GM, thanks. downloaded the patch from MS. I have not used Messenger since I bought XP when it first came out. This *Message* has only showed up since my last format and reinstall 1 week ago.

ALWAYS check with microsoft.com. There have been a number of occasions in which worm-ridden emails have been supposedly sent from MS telling people to "Click on this link" to get an "Important Security Update". Only a fool clicks on it!

i just periodically check www.windowsupdate.microsoft.com for new stuff. cant really complain at the moment.
