Spyware/Adware

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Spyware/Adware

I've just updated my Ad-Aware 6.0 definitions and found 156 new things. Yesterday, with the previous ones (Several months old) I found only 6. So, unless 150 things got on my computer in one day, updating your definitions is good.

Does anybody have any spyware/adware removers that they like?

I've always liked Ad-Aware.

Moral: Not only do you have to get these programs (They're free), but you need to update them.

This has a PSA.

I had a super Ego, but it was pestering me so I killed it.

I use AdAware and update it at least weekly, as well as Spybot Search and Destroy and Norton. All of this and the natural firewall that XP has in it makes me pretty secure, I hope.

Run Spywareblaster as well, and you've got an impenetrable fortress. As long as you remember to man the towers.

A mixture of AAW and SB-SD will give you good coverage, but I don't use them personally. I use Firefox, which is not affected by much of the spyware around, I block third-party cookies with my firewall. I also only install files from trusted sources. I'll do a scan in a couple of days, and see what it says; just out of interest. Fine! I'll do it now... I just used AAW6, and it found nothing. No spyware can penetrate my fortress!

I just installed Spywareblaster and I don't understand if it works or not. When I protect against the items, it won't remove them from the list. Is there a reason for that, and does it still work?

@Esq, took your advice and got firefox. Not too bad. Remindes me of firebird.

@steve

Everything listed in black is stuff you're already protected from. I keeps 'em there so you can easily un-protect again.(waddayawanna do that for? sic.) Red items needs to be checked before you press the protect button or it won't be included.

Final - Good on you! Once you take that step and stop using IE, you'll never go back! Firefox is great, but you don't have as much control over the settings as you do with Mozilla. However Firefox is faster, and more compatible too. I couldn't use the "Return to thread" option here on the forums with Mozilla, but it works with Firefox.
