Back up Help!

Does anyone know of a good back up program that uses file compression like Win 98 Did? I have WinXP and while it is good, it does not compress. I need to compress almost a gig down to 700 megs. Preferable other than as a zip file.

There are many programs that are available. You can use WinRAR, WinACE, ARJ, etc, etc, or just use XP's "Send to" menu to make it into a compressed folder (effectively a zip archive).

Esq, Thanks for the help. Do these do a good compression ratio for data? The reason I ask was with Win98 I was able to put 2.54 megs on a 1.44 disk with data and a little less with images.

No problem . WinACE has one of the better compression ratios, but WinRAR is supposed slightly better than that, and is also more popular because of it. RAR is probably the way to go. However, I would advice trying both and doing some tests to determine which one is better, as all compression methods vary due to the file types that they are compressing, and other factors.

Thanks Esq. I will give them both a try. Much appreciated. *now where did I put those disks*
