In regards to Origin, I posted that in the "The gaming scene is changing." thread yesterday. Taw and Indy are the only ones who noticed. No-one pays attention to me .

I am assuming that the stuff I excerpted from CIC and put on Esqy's thread was written by the one and only CR. Not knowing anything about it, never having been to CIC before .... etc. But reading that "obit" the narrative voice that came to mind was that smarmy show announcer bit that Eric Idle used to do on MP skits. The breezy voiced one with the sing song incantation which I think is in parody of American tv show hosts but... I'm not sure.

Anyhoo. If that obit is an example of the infamous Mr. CR, I can "hear" your point.

Chris Reid had absolutely nothing to do with the obituary. It was written by Ben "Bandit LOAF" Lesnick.

In any case, I find it sad how a thread about "what would your dream Wing Commander game be" quickly turned into "Wing Commander is dead and also WCNews sucks". I'm ashamed I brought it on, and I will withdrawl from further activity in this thread. It isn't worth reviving some old grudge match over.

EDIT: Changed "fans" to WCNews, as I realize whatever animosity you carry applies primarily to that site.

hey, Wcnews is an excellent site, very useful, can't take the effort away from the guys, Just don't like the attitude of certain people who work there, and it's not limited to the site itself.

actually Bob you didnt bring it on, Mustang was the OP, and the news about Origin's demise was hardly news to those of us who take an interest in all things WC. As far as my issues with Wcnews are concerned, yes it is a grudge, yes it goes back a long way, yes Chris Reid was responsible, but I won't go into the specific details.

However, If you spend time on Wcnews, and have enough independence of mind to look at other WC resources on the 'net, you should be aware that there are a very large number of WC fans who won't have anything to do with that site (other than downloads) and have been alienated by Mr Reid, Mr Vanhecke, Mr Lesnick and co., which is a crying shame.

if 'Gib operated TLR in the same way, this site would consist of about 1/2 dozen regulars being rude to newcomers and classing everyone who didn't 100% agree with them 100% of the time as not real WC fans and as stupid too, hmmm in a manner most reminiscent of Derek Smart (oh no I said the name!)

however no offence was meant or intended, but we do get significantly more freedom of expression at TLR and our mods make sure no one gets hounded out, unlike that other site. Plus we pretty much all have a good sense of humour, unlike said other site.

Still i guess its whatever floats your particular boat, after all...

Only had Wing Commander 3 and Privateer, but loved and beat them at least ten times each. Now I can't play them since they're too out of date...

I wish they would make another game, except purly from the Kilrathi's point of view. And if you do well enough, you get to kill Chirstopher Blair and do strafing runs on Earth.

Oh course, they should make another, as much of the original dev team as possible, new storyline set significantly into the future w/ a new alien menace, CG characters (live action Kilrathi... remember those... yech.), generally the same mechanics as the old ones, and while space sims aren't the biggest thing right now, I think there are enough people who know the Wing Commander name, that they would simply have to buy it, resulting in at least some profit... hell, package a collectors edition of the movie w/ it w/ some deleted scenes or lame commentary... that'll bring it in. Call it "Wing Commander: Genesis".
