Nylon

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Nylon

How many of you here know that you shouldn't try to apply iron-on patches to nylon ski pants?
Apparently, my mother doesn't... and last night she ruined a perfectly good pair of ski pants with a small 'L' shaped rip trying to add an iron on patch... and there is a three inch diameter hole in them now... and the iron might be ruined.
(sorry if this sounds like I'm whining... I don't mean to)
Has anything like this ever happened to you?

I won't reply for a couple days because I'm skiing this weekend... if only my ski pants were intact...

I know I've done stupid stuff...and I mean really stupid...
But for some strange reason I can't remember anything.
Wait...does that count as something stupid?

burnt nylon can be removed from an iron by slightly warming the iron then rubbing it with a soft scouring bad soaked in vinegar, then with warm soapy water.

actually i thought the thread was about nylons, as in ladies hosiery, a topic in which i have a tremendous interest (stockings, tights, whatever, the way they make a womans legs look and feel.. I'd better stop now)

That's OK Taw, I'm sure it could drift that way and I'm sure you'd have many riveted readers!

hehehe I too thought this thread was about something slightly more interesting

Taw, whats with you tonight? You're like "guru of everything" today! Ever thought about going on "who wants to be a millionaire?" ??! I'll be your "phone a friend" for all things web design

it was learnt years ago from reading me nan's TV Times, the Katie Boyle tips. good old Katie, she's never let me down

for example, do you know how to stop an egg from cracking in boiling water, even if it's already cracked? light 2 matches, blow them out, and drop them in the water before you put the egg(s) in. I don't know how it works, but it works!

turn clothes inside out before putting them in a tumble dryer, it stops them going bobbly.

When cleaning up a stain on a carpet, scrub around the stain and work inwards spiralling to the centre, for more absorption and minimising any residual staining.

put a few drops of olive oil into boiling pasta to stop it sticking.

ok enough tips, i feel a Viz style "Top Tips" and "Letterbox" coming on.

ladies, save money on expensive tights by painting your legs brown with your husband/fathers/brothers/uncles exterior woodstain!

save on expensive christmas cards by telling everyone you've moving but you haven't got the new address on you That way no-one will send you a christmas card and you wont be driven by guilt to buy one in return.

cut down on household food and utility bills by selling your children.

go green and harness the power of nature by turning off your car engine and tying stray dogs to the front of your car (remember to leave the handbrake off)

diet the easy way by buying a simple needle and thread and sowing your mouth up.

fool your friends into thinking you've got a really expensive computer by putting up some net curtains and leaving the telly untuned and on all night with the sound off.

Telly? Untuned? Wtf?
Can I get a (UK ---> Canadian) dictionary here?

Actually, nylon can be patched with the right type of patch and with the right temp setting usually low heat

@Taw - Dont let my mom see the comment about selling your kids to save money on the bills. That might give her an idea she can't turn down.

Telly = TV, Untuned so you get the static interference and no picture. It'll flicker gently making the room look like it's got a computer with a big monitor in it.

Taw, heard most of those before...but I'm lovin the 2 matchsticks in with your boiling eggs....gonna have to give it a go

Post Sat Feb 21, 2004 2:42 am

honest it really does work, I don't know why. Anybody want to try to figure it out? i thought at first it might be something to do with surface tension, but I don't think thats it anymore.

Post Sat Feb 21, 2004 2:59 am

hmmm, my first thought was sulphur...maybe something happens when it combines with the water?

Post Sat Feb 21, 2004 3:12 am

sulphur's gone during the striking of the match, it's burnt matches you have to put in.
