how do you remove a hijacker?

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

how do you remove a hijacker?

I have Ad-Aware installed.... and for some reason (strangely i always visit the same sites and it never happened before, until i visited Filefront...... its wierd) anyway.... i got that ****ty, ****ty, torturously dumb adware stuck called a Hijacker..... this is possibly the worst of all adware, unlike others who work silently or in the background. This one happens to take its rightful (**** no) place as your homepage, which should be easy to resolve by simply switching it. But as I witness now.... I switch my homepage, and what it does is take it to the same ****ty unpopular search engine, but with the homepage i put at the end of the address. So heres my dilemma, I have ADAWARE, and updated and ran it. It detected said Hijacker and i told it to remove the stupid thing. So it said it did, ran 2 more ADAWARE checks and found nothing, so i sign on to Internet Explorer, and once again, im at that ****ty site. I try to change the homepage, apply the setting and voila, hitting the home button takes me back to the same damn page.

So... now im SURE the adware is removed. but it still keeps resetting to the page, and yes i have tried restarting. The only reason i was able to get to Lancersreactor is because its on my favorites, which happen to be the only sites i can goto without seeing that search engine. Now I have heard some people warn me about it, but somehow it managed to find me. And once more, with my technical problems, i turn to The Lancers Reactor guys........ people like... tawakalna who seem to have a dip of genius everywhere, or people like arcon, who people always disagree with thus causing other people to go into more detail about why their right..... helping me in the process . Anyway guys, need help............**sigh** again.... what do you have for me?

EDIT: ok, got it fixed for the homepage so now my homepage is where i want it. but trying to visit any OTHER site besides the homepage takes me there now, which is if nothing else much worse than before.......

I'm not entirely sure about this, but if you're feeling dicy, you could try checking your registry and deleting any entries it has.

If you have system restore, all the better

What is the source of the adware?

i seriously have no idea what i did that made it leave, but it did, and i'm happy

Mine works like this. Every morning and only in the morning, at boot up for the day, IE is set to go to a search engine site that calls itself "blank." If I change the home page in internet options (from control panel because I refuse to give this hijacker any of my clicks), I can reset to my real home choice and that takes care of it.

Interestingly, after that first boot for the day, if I happen to shut down and then
reboot at some other point in the same day, the hijacker leaves me alone.

I've been scouring my registry but I cannot seem to locate the miscreant lines.

<Edit>
Yes. I've already checked my startup and win.ini.

I had one of those once, I responded to the invasion with the purging of the hard drive, then reinstalling windows, then everything else, and voila, it was gone

You could always use that special word that starts with an "F" and ends with an "ormat". And add a "C:" at the end too. Don't forget that.

I formatted my old comp and it runs like a wonder now, and I know every single file on my PC (except that damn MSWord, it's so tricky! ).
