X2 vs. Freelancer

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

X2 vs. Freelancer

I hope this question is OK. I was wondering which game is closest to the old Frontier and Elite games?

Perhaps I should go into more detail.

One of my favourite games of all time, or at least top five is Frontier First Encounters. I would like to play something more up to date with more challenges, but the same basic idea. If I play Freelancer in open sp mode for long enough will I be able to take my pick of trading and piracy etc., or has anyone played x2, and know what that's like? I'm more into freeform stuff, doing what I want rather than just dogfighting and following the story.

It is more like Elite than Freelancer......but harder, and bigger (not system wise, gameplay wise).......THATS NOT TO SAY its better than FL. It has its probs........PPL PLEASE do not turn this into an anti X2 thread. Just compare it.

@MikeH good to see another Elite fan...we're rare as rocking horse **** nowadays ....I haven't played X2 yet, what elements from elite does it have?

I'm not sure. I like the sound of the being able to build your own factories and stuff.

I just want to get an idea of what it's like before I spend £30.

Maybe I'll reinstall First Encounters and play that again, I would be happy with just a gfx upgrade for that

X2 is a brilliant game with ****e controls. When I say ****e controls. I mean it.
I have seen no game come even close to having controls this bad. If X2 had better controls, it would beat Freelancer hands down. Unfortunately, it doesn't.
Freelancers main advantage is it's arcadish simplicity. Not once while playing it did I encounter anything I didn't understand.

I'm making record time!
If only I had someplace to be...
