Aye, ginger beer is great stuff.
Whoever invented it deserves a big shiny medal.

It IS damn good stuff! Oh no, I forgot to put some in the fridge so that I can drink it when I get home from work. Damn!

I wonder when GB was invented? It's probably hundreds of years old. After all, the art of fermentation has been known for a long time. Even the Egyptians had alcohol. It is possible that it orignated in China, because ginger is considered to have many properties, and thus drinking it would be a logical step.

All this talk of 'Ginger Beer', Is it in any way like the American Ginger Ale? Just wondering because it sounds similar. That's good stuff if it is though.

Argh! Yet another explanation of the difference between ginger ale and ginger beer is required. Ginger "Ale" is carbonated water with sugar, colours and flavours. Real Ginger "Beer" is made with sugar, yeast and fresh ginger, which gives its distinctive taste. Despite the fact that it has sugar and yeast, it is non-alcholic. Ginger Ale is good stuff; as along as you don't have any ginger beer to drink!

Ginger Ale is best used as a mixer, especially dry ginger ale and chivas regal scotch. yummy.

"Ginger wine", eh? Well, if it's alcoholic I won't touch it. In any case, I have never seen it here in Aus. Apparently, there is also a type of vodka made out of ginger. Sounds interesting. Not of course, that I could touch the stuff.

@esq I was brought up in a strict temperant household (explain a few things?! ), Ginger Wine was a non-alcoholic alternative we used to have at christmas. You can get alcoholic versions, but in its traditional form there's none in it whatsoever.
