Windows NT/2000 Source Code Leaked

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Windows NT/2000 Source Code Leaked

I can't believe no-one has posted this. I was waiting, hoping it would be someone other than me, but...

According to various sources, the source code to Windows NT/2000 has been leaked. Apparently, it was leaked by Mainsoft, a partner of MS.

I heard about it on Friday. What will this mean? Is it a publicity stunt? Very unlikely, but I'll leave that up to you to decide. It would be fun to see a whole bunch of Windows 2000 clones, wouldn't it?

Here's the latest.

Post Sat Feb 14, 2004 5:53 pm

[The leaked code includes 30,915 files and was apparently removed from a Linux computer used by Mainsoft for development purposes. Dated July 25, 2000, the source code represents Windows 2000 Service Pack 1.

Fortunely not much damage can be done. Hopefully they will catch the one who leaked/posted it.

Yeah, here's the CNN.com version. Although it deals more with the presence of profanity and hateful comments inside the source code. Also in the news, you can see my neighborhood, Here OH- (someone finish this, please.)

Actually, it more like a teaser from the news program. They tell you a little, then you hang around to get the rest, in this case the link.

Well there is supposed to be an FBI team on the case. I'm sure MS feels safer already . According to rumour, only 15% of the code was leaked, but MS won't confirm or deny that. Do they have something to hide, or are they just being quiet in the hope that it will go away? Yeah, that'll happen!

It's still a major problem becsue most likely whover hacked the source code can probably hack the rest of it. Then there could be an illegal imitation using Windows' technology. That poses a question, who would want to market something just like windows? All those bugs.

Who knows? Perhaps someone will create their own OS based on the code for home, simliarly to way in which Linux Torvalds made Linux. Then, when (I mean "if" ) the source code become available, they will be able to release it. Still, that ain't gonna happen.
