I've heard nasty things about windows update. Hundreds of updates, eventualy they start to conflict, with each other or software, it really doesn't matter. Just screws up your computer. I've been staying away from them myself.

Can somone confirm/deny this?

@bob there are some that are a waste of space but some
ARE 100% VITAL normally to close some of the loopholes windows is riddled with

Always up to date. The stories you here are probs more likely by those wanting you NOT to update. One thing is for sure, if you NOT up to date, then it will be a matter of time before your comp gets a virus/hacked.

Its like having a free services offered by a garage whenever they think you might need one, but NOT takeing them up, - just cause you don't want to. No offense, but its dumb....

i cant download windows patches, norton thinks they are viruses
and deletes them

and when i turn it off, and download them,
windows won't install them!

Don't know if this helps but I've found that the only way to download the updates is by using the Windows Update feature built into Windows which, of course, only uses IE. Trying to do this with other browsers has not been successful for me.

The point, I guess, is that the guys who've come up with Mydoom and its successors are smarter than the ordinary bears. The vulnerabilities may always have been there but it is not as if Microsoft knew they existed from the start. These guys found the holes so now MS is scrambling to push out the plugs.
