why don't you just disable the search bar function?

but people will insist on using IE despite what we keep telling them, making an open invitation to spyware and viruses and trojans and dialers and everything else nasty.

Taw's right, IE is the worst choice you could make! I've just switched over from Mozilla to Firefox (which is based on Mozilla). It is REALLY fast and, although not as flexible as Mozilla, is well worth the download. I highly recommend it, and I've almost convinced the guys at work to add it to the SOE. If you want to try it, you can find it at www.mozilla.org.

There is always Opera

Taw, have you tryed spysweeper? It does better than Ad-Aware. It found a few things that Ad-Aware didn't find.

Opera is ok, but it advertises stuff until you pay for it (or at least it used to), and it is based upon the Mozilla engine anyway.
