What''s with all the "cookie" requests?

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

What''s with all the "cookie" requests?

I have been noticing lately quite a bit of cookie requests when viewing posts. I have research this and discovered most of these cookie requests are coming from pictures/signatures rendering while a page is loading on some people's posts.

I hate cookies. People, try find a non-invasive place to store signature pictures. Anyone got some room on their web-space to accommodate these pictures? I'd do it in a heartbeat if I had any room.

I REALLY hate coookies. Did I mention I hate cookies?

i love cookies.......why?

Cause my IP changes everytime i come online - which means that cookies mean i don't have to log on each time.

PLaces that don't do this are:

Frostworks and
My own Forums

Means that, for frostworks i have to log in every time,

for my own forums - i cannot access my admin panel, cause my IP doesn't match the original one. Luckily my mate hosts them - so he has to do all the admin chores

hence - for me, cookies are good!

Cookies are the creation of the Devil! Half of the time, they do not serve any useful purpose other than to take up space, and the rest of the time, they are spyware and track the sites you've been to! Damn all cookies to hell! Well, apart from the edible variety that is .

Not all of them are spyware though - they CAN be - but they aren't automatically.
Also - this site uses cookies.....

Not for ME is doesn't! I block all third party cookies. I can't even click on the "Return to Post" or "Return to Forum" links after posting! It's irritating, but secure.

paranoid are we?

Post Sun Feb 08, 2004 5:05 pm

A bit. Wait a minute, what's that? Is that guy following me?!?!

I'm very protective of my computer. Besides, if I had a trojan or some spyware on my home PC, what kind of IT type would I be?

Post Sun Feb 08, 2004 11:06 pm

One that, if that happened, would lock down the entire system, put the computer area into a biohazard chamber, dismantle the computer, use a chip wiper to replace all the RAM and ROM chips, raplace the CPU for fear of corruption, and use a binary filter to manually remove the spyware, before re-assembling the computer, triple-checking for spyware, reinstalling the OS, running a system Debug, CIA, NSA and NASA bug, virus and trojan tests, before hooking it back up and not going on the interent for another three decades?

i check for spyware and vir's every three weeks, a more pressing problem is how to find out my sisters user password so i can stop her willingly installing useless programs that are nothing BUT trojans!!!
any ideas???

I take it that the direct approach of asking her is off limits?

You will need admin rights on the computer. So that you log on as admin, and she has to log onto the same comp as a user. This can be done by giving her her own profile.

Start menu, then to contorl panel, into control panel, select "user accounts" (bottom of control panel) and then make sure your the admin of course. Now add a user - name it with your sisters name, and give it limited access (means that they cannot do nearly anything without your say so).

now make sure YOUR account is password protected so that she cannot use the admin account, and if there is a guest account, make sure that its limited use as well.

Remember to make SURE yours is the admins account, and that you have it password protected.

From now on your sis won't be able to put anything on the comp. In fact- she can do next to nothing

You can also use the "Event Log" under Admin. Tools - Performance to monitor events such as program installations, etc. That way, you will know who and when spyware, etc is installed.

Note: My computer room already IS a biohazard chamber. I even have a girl in a small booth who dispenses biohazard suits, to eliminate dust and other contaminants, and also confiscates electronic equipment so that it does not interfere with my PC.

Ok, i have XP home, under user accounts, i have guest on, and there are four other accounts, my sisters and mine are password protected, encrypted, system admins, my mum is and admin, and my dad is a user.

I need some way to alter her class from 'admin' to 'restricted'
