I just took X2 back to the store for a refund.

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

I just took X2 back to the store for a refund.

The game sucked. It just sucked.

The cut scenes were HORRENDOUS. Not only was the FPS a big problem for me, and many, many, many, many others with TOP end systems, but the models were so horrible that it ruined all sense of immersion.

I never appreciated owning FreeLancer before.

And to make it worse.. the general public has no idea that there are mountains of problems with X2.. not just glitches, but a crappy 3d engine itself. There hasnt been a peep out of the developers concerning a fix or a patch for this, and many players are upset (LIKE ME.). If you have a look at egosoft's forum page, youll notice that you can only have access to the TECH SUPPORT threads when you register an account. An account can only be registered if you purchase the game.

Thats right. The public remains unaware that X2 is a dog of a game, because egosoft cleverly stashes its evidence behind a forum that only game-owners can read.

SECONDLY. X2 the threat INSTALLS SPYWARE. Its in the form of a "copy protection driver." It mines the system of yours and reports to egosoft when you login. They claim that this whole rig is setup to provide customers with personal support solutions.. but they don't give a care about their customers one bit.. they remain silent amidst the cries of the public for a 1.3 patch to correct the piece of s**t 3d engine.

That and the game has a learning curve of about 24 hours.

Be happy you have freelancer, its great. You can immerse yourself in a world of exploration and trading in one of the smoothest 3d engines ever created for space games. X2's engine is like a slide projector.. and only yields about 30fps at 1024x768 during intense fighting scenes on a 3.0 ghz, 256mb Nvidia and 1gb RAM.

BAH.

I'm sory you didn't like it. Perhaps some are willing to make more compromises for what the game offers. To each his own.

I'm all over that! See here

We took countless "hits" here from them tearing apart Freelancer, it's only fair to return the favor in my opinion.

For the record...

I made a big mistake on their website and got the thread locked. The moderator said this:

Thread locked. Stinger, your links were edited out because they contravene the board policy on warez (since the patches are not currently released for other download sites). You chose to edit them back in again, which I consider to be trolling.

I apologized directly to that moderator and requested he change his last post in the locked thread to reveal the truth of the matter. I in fact DID NOT go back in and re-edit my post after he's "fixed" it to take out the links. So far he's not changed anything and I wanted to be sure my good name was not tarnished here at home. (Me, accused of trolling??? Oh my gawd that was a blow to my rep huh?) The facts do not show this as being the case at all.

I explained we do not condone warez stuff here and didn't realize they don't condone it there either. Honest mistake on my part and I have taken responsibility for my actions there. They allow cussin' and swearin' and flamin' and carryin' on but they don't allow for warez.

Well, everyone has their own lines to draw in the sand it appears.

UPDATE: CBJ modifed his accusation. BUT the thread is still locked. Guess we're not the only moderators with a "trigger finger" huh?

All flaming aside, it appears that the moderators over there are doing a fine job. But as a contrast, one of the BIG issues they had with us here (besides the fact we actually liked FL) was how we (moderators) tend to lock down threads "on a whim." Well, it appears as though when the truth is revealed we have a lot in common with those moderators at ego. I mean the reason the thread was locked was eliminated/clarified, why not unlock it? I mean countless threads went on and on about how we are lock happy when anything "anti-FL is posted here. The truth is now being revealed that we lock threads that are in direct conflict with our own rules and regs...just like they do.

I don't mind taking hits for my/our actions, but when the same people that are firing these salvo's at us for doing our jobs as moderators turn around and condone people in the same power level to do the same thing I find that not only hypocritical but just frickin' wrong.

Not ANOTHER thread...sigh...post it on Egosoft where people care. Did you even download the patches? V 1.2 fixes alot of things...did you even read their general boards? There is a list of bugs stickied there.

Sounds to me like it's close to all-out war! I don't own X2 but just from what i've heard X2 has better graphics and features but it sacrifices stability and compatibility. Someone tell me if I'm right in my venture here.

I am the signature virus! Copy me into your signature so that I can take over the world! Moohahahee!

Go Stinger! i read what you were posting there, Rob, and I didn't think what you were putting down contravened any regs concerning warez or anything like it, myself. So I didn't think you needed to apologise at all. I admire your apology as a gesture of diplomacy however

I think you made your point forcefully and well, and to my mind the reaction against you was as unecessary as it was expected. I'd hoped that as fellow spacxe-simmers they'd have taken those points on board with a bit of grace after the pastings that FLs had, but sadly that wasnt to be. While I'm still gonna get the game (whenever I can reclaim my pc long enough to play the thing) and my appetite for it hasnt been lessened one whit, I don't think I'll be joining in the discussion on those forums much, if at all.

whats the point of having moderators if they only enforce one thing?

My only major gripe with the engine has been during the last story mission, they tried to dump to much on screen at the one time, which hacks fps to shreads and makes a very difficult mission durn near impossible, even turning all options off. However I can't say I've had any real problems elsewhere, the cutscenes suck though, very thunderbird like.

See? Yet another person has returned the game for a refund. I KNEW I wasn't overreacting! Take that, Griff!

FL was pirated and available to all BEFORE it hit the retail stores folks

ya know.. when i went to the stores on the date of release.. they handed me their last copy. i asked when it came out. they replied saying that FL came out in their stores nearl 4 mths before the official release.(btw i'm talking warez here)

Post Sat Feb 07, 2004 7:53 pm

Actually, the "gold" or retail version of FL was out about 2-3 weeks before it hit retail shelves here in the US. Any other version was either PR version (which was not final product) or possibly beta versions (that again was not final version).

My biggest gripe though thus far was getting that thread locked down by the moderator (who WAS doing his job)...but...the reasons he locked it were because of mis-information AND out of all the sites I linked (there were four of them) only one was considered officlal warez site.

At least he took back the accusation of me trolling. Damn, that hit hard. So basically at this point if I were to go back there and post facts about X2 that do not shed a pretty light on it chances are it might get locked. Where's all the peeps complaining on their boards about how the forums are over-moderated huh? They were squacking like bluebirds here and there when we shut down the flames in the better interest of everyone (and it got VERY much more out of hand than it is now).

It just chaffs my backside to see how the rules apply but only when it's self-serving. I mean the points I was bringing up (other than drawing the coorelation between X2 and X2-MP capabilities) were legit man.
