In the line of fire was superb...mainly because of John Malkovich though 
He really doesn't need to make an effort to look evil...
...that film's the closest I would say that you could get to remaking The Day of the Jackal, without completely remaking it word for word and ruining it...or writing a crap script and sticking Bruce Willis in it
