Speaking of Linux, and never mind SCO's suit against the Linux community for copyright infringement serves them right to be targeted by MYDOOM imho.

But speaking of Linux..... is there a windows emulator (like they've had for Apple OSes) for Linux so that you can run windows games in it? Anyone try it?

I'm sort of kind of tempted to go Linux.

dunno about games. some of our guys use windows emulators if Linux on their laptops for comms stuff when theyre in the field, but hat's for programming stuff, don't think games or m/media are too hot if even supported.

There's Lindows, which is supposed to be a windows like version of Linux. I think it uses a similar like file system to windows and a couple of other simlarities.

Indy - You can use "Wine" to play some Windows games on Linux.

Windows XP is the way to go, unless you wish to switch to Linux. It is a bit premature I think, because mainstream games and products are still not being made for Linux (there are exceptions). So until that happens, I'm staying with Windows.

As for WinME, yes it is plagued with problems, and yes it is unstable, but I used it for more than two years, prior to WinXP, and it worked very well for me. It was stable (most of the time), and started up and shutdown quickly. Unfortunately, due to the problems above, it is not highly regarded in the IT industry (I do not know one company that uses it; they use 2000 or 98 instead), and thus it was never really popular.

Lindows is just a sad excuse to pay for linux, WINE works good enough, albeit a little choppy.

So are we talking about a dual boot setup where you use Linux for everything but gaming and for gaming you boot up in Windows?

I'm using ME on my home computer and in case of total crashes (I've had a couple, just minor inconveniences) I slaved a second hard drive with ME loaded on it. If one goes down, swap the slave/master jumpers, copy important files from dead drive, reformat/reinstall OS on dead drive, dead drive is now backup drive. If new master goes down (a while later), repeat.

Indy - Standard procedure is to use LILO or GRUB as a bootloader and then use Linux for day-to-day use, and then use Windows for gaming, etc.

i reccomend Windows LongHorn!

Taw - GRUB is alright, and is preferred by some as it has more features as I understand it. I have only used it briefly, but LILO is more than sufficient. GRUB just has a slightly different interface, and that's about all I have seen from my casual inspections.

Longhorn? We'll see, AoD. Don't get your hopes up. Linux would have won over the desktop market by then!
