USB tech Help Needed

Ok, If anyone can help me out there, please do, because this is really starting to P**s me off.

I have a Canon Scanner and printer Attached to a Dual USB port on the rear of my computer, and after about 1-5 hours the system will resgister that the devices have shut off and will refuse to send any more data to the devices or accept data flow from them, even though the devices are on and functioning.
I think the problem is with the USB system because i have tried reinstalling the drivers and that didn't help.
Anyone got any ideas?

System specs:
Intel P4 2GHz processor
80Gb HDD
256Mb Ram unknown brand
Windows XP Home Opsystem
S520 Canon Printer
N676U Canon Scanner
SiS 7001 PCI to USB open host controller

TIA

Go to the "Device Manager" and check the "Advanced" tab of your USB "PCI to USB Open Host Controller". Check to make sure that resources have been devoted to it by the system, as this can sometimes be the problem. Does your MB support USB? 1.0, 1.1, 2.0? All of them? What about your scanner? Which version of USB does is support? It could be a compatibility issue. Also double-check the USB connectors and your connections. Try that for now.

Forget all this technical talk! Unplug the thing and plug it back in! That's what I do

Well that's one way to do it! I assume that if it were that simple, he would have done it by now.

Esq,
The USB driver has 11% bandwidth accocated by the system. With two Resources designated with gibberish Serial tags.
As for compatibily, thay are compatible, the devices run.
I can print and scan and print and scan for hours, and then...
DING! your scanner/printer(whatever im using) is not responding, i know its plugged in, i know its turned on, but i just cant be bothered doing any more scanning or printing now, please do all this usless stuff that i know wont work and come back when i feel like working again.

As you can tell, im sligtly frustrated, as my 22 year old sister uses her unexplicably foul moth, blames me, and orders me to fix it, whenever something goes wrong.
(usually when she breaks it)

I only noticed one anomoly in the whole thing...
When the printer is turned on, is uses 2Mw from one port, but the port can only support 500k per port, but that cant be the problem, even if the printer is off, this problem still occurs.

Mmm, that's a tricky one. The distribution of resources is also fine, but it's almost as if Windows is "timing out" the connection. About the only theory that I have is that there is a problem with one end of the connection. Either the MB is faulty (most likely) or, there is a problem with the cable. Trying a different USB cable might be worth a try. Otherwise, I would recommend searching on Google or something and checking out some computer forums. Good luck.
